One of South Korea’s renowned K-pop girl groups is certainly stepping it up, by collaborating with one of the most sought-out singers of all time. Yep, that’s right—Blackpink will be included in Lady Gaga’s 6th album called Chromatica, along with a roster of other artists such as Ariana Grande and Elton John.

It has been confirmed that the four girls will be featured in Gaga’s new song named Sour Candy in the 16-track album.

Since there has been so much hype about Blackpink’s new project, let’s take a look at how these talented stars skyrocketed to fame.

JENNIE

Kim Jennie, now simply known as Jennie, was born in South Korea, but moved to New Zealand and studied at ACG Parnell College. A couple of years later, she returned to South Korea and signed up with YG Entertainment, where she received her training as an artist.

Not only was Jennie noticed for her singing chops, but for her flair for rapping as well. In 2016, the group's final members were finally revealed, and Jennie was lucky enough to have made the cut.

But even before Jennie made her debut in Blackpink, she was featured in Lee Hi’s song Special in 2012 and a year later joined Big Bang’s G Dragon’s music video called That XX. And take note, Jennie was the first Korean solo artist who performed at Coachella in 2019. 


LISA

Pranpriya Manoban, who goes by the name of Lisa, was born in Bangkok, Thailand. At an early age, Lisa developed a passion for dancing and also landed a few modeling stints.

She was the only Thai who passed in YG Entertainment’s auditions held in Thailand back in 2010, and began training in the company for five years in South Korea.

While she was training, she joined the dance group Wee Za Cool, along with some of her co-trainees. In 2016, she was included in Blackpink’s debut as an official K-pop group, and she was also known as the first non-Korean artist to join YG Entertainment. 

 

ROSE

The third member of the group is Rose, whose birth name is Roseanne Park. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but later on moved to Melbourne, Australia at a young age.

When Rose was a child, she developed her love for singing and was part of a church choir. It was her father who urged her to try out for YG’s audition that was held in Australia, where she fortunately ranked first.

In 2016, Rose was handpicked as one of the members of the girl group Blackpink, and also appeared in a South Korean singing competition program called King Of Masked Singer.


JISOO

Kim Ji-Soo, better known as Jisoo, was born in Gunpo, South Korea and was artistically inclined at a young age, playing the drums and the piano. 

She studied at the School Of Performing Arts High School where she was also recognized for her beauty and her interest in the arts.

When she was 16 years old, she was chosen to be a trainee at YG Entertainment, and carried on with her training for five years. However, Jisoo also landed other stints such as a cameo appearance in the KBS2 drama series The Producers and and did several advertisements for some top brands.

In 2016, she made her debut, alongside her other fellow trainees for the K-pop group Blackpink and her career continued to thrive ever since.
