Sophie Reyes

There’s some pressure added to the 20-year old Sophie Reyes as she’s the daughter of actress Rina Reyes—and the granddaughter of the classic showbiz icon Paraluman.

At 7, Sophie already had a fascination for acting. She entered the world of theater and attended dance workshops to hone her skills.

One time, she was part of the play titled Magsimula Ka, where oddly, she got accepted in the same role as her mother’s back in the day. “I wanted to work extra harder. Pinakita ko rin na different kami,” she says.

Although Sophie was really eager to enter showbiz, her mother had a condition for her to finish school first. She graduated at the de la Salle-College of Saint Benilde, with a degree in Multimedia Arts last year. Until then, Sophie was able to do commercials and a TV series.

Vlogging is also one of the things she’s doing right now. She describes herself as “naturally sabaw”, positive and go-with-the-flow—Hence, her Youtube channel titled Soup with Sophie.

Sophie’s journey didn’t come easy as she already tried becoming a part of Star Magic despite having to finish school first. “Pero nag-audition ako dito sa Star Magic when I was 13 and 17, and when I was 19 last year, and finally, ayun, parang nakita ni Mr. M (Star Magic head, director Johnny Manahan) na I was ready na.”

The rejections she received later brought her to realize that things just had to fall nicely into place. “Di ko kaya ‘yung pressure, di ko kaya ‘yung kailangan gawin, parang now I see it as a blessing,” she says, gratefully.

Sophie’s childhood dream has finally come true when she was launched together with the 15 newest Star Magic artists of Batch 2019.
