It has been exactly a week since James Reid and Nadine Lustre confirmed that—yes, the rumors are true—they are no longer together, but the Internet still can’t seem to move on, still trying to process the news that their beloved JaDine, one of local showbiz’s biggest couples and perhaps its realest pair yet, are no more.

But how did we get here, exactly? A lot has happened, and to help you keep track of it all, below is a look through the “reel-to-real” couple’s romantic history.

AUGUST 2013: Nadine played James’ partner in the music video for his single, Alam Niya Ba, which was part of his first and self-titled studio album, released in September 2013 under Viva Records.

APRIL 2014: Their chemistry was so strong, that James and Nadine were paired once again for Diary ng Panget: The Movie, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Denny R. The success of the film, which also stars Yassi Pressman and Andre Paras, would soon pave the way for JaDine to land a two-year exclusive contract with ABS-CBN.

Within the same year, JaDine top-billed another blockbuster movie, Talk Back And You’re Dead. They went on to star in films Para sa Hopeless Romantic in 2015 and This Time in 2016.

AUGUST 2015: James and Nadine made their primetime series debut via Antoinette Jadaone’s On the Wings of Love, which, after six months on air, ended in a grand two-part finale: a recorded segment followed by a live viewing party at Ynares Center, Antipolo City.

FEBRUARY 2016: At that viewing party, dubbed the JaDine in Love concert, James publicly expressed his feelings for Nadine for the very first time. Viva Entertainment, which manages both artists at the time, would later confirm that the two officially became a couple on February 11, 2016.

JULY 2017: In an interview that spawned thousands of memes online, Nadine addressed the speculations that she and James are living together. "I mean, if that was true, so what? Hindi ba? It's not new anymore. There are younger couples—mas young pa sa akin [who are already living together]. It's normal na eh. Come on, guys, it's 2017!" she said. "I'm not gonna confirm, and I'm not gonna deny. But then, like, ano naman? Let's all just be open-minded."

MARCH 2018: A different kind of JaDine was seen in Antoinette Jadaone’s Never Not Love You, where James and Nadine played a couple whose young, carefree, and reckless love is tested when their dreams took them to different paths.

SEPTEMBER 2018: The couple made their ABS-CBN Ball debut in matching striking ensembles by Garimon Roferos and Bang Pineda. In an Instagram post, James described Nadine as “an absolute stunner”, and definitely his “star of the night”.

MARCH 2019: An emotional Nadine opened up about her three-year relationship with James on Tonight With Boy Abunda, where she credited the actor for being the “biggest instrument for my healing”. “‘Yung naging transition ko from who I was before, to the person I am now is so beautiful na kahit hindi na kami ni James, he will always have a special place in my heart. Kasi talagang nag-grow kami,” she said. “I’m really, really thankful that he came into my life. It was so different before. I think he was the biggest instrument for my healing, and for just discovering myself and finding myself."

A week after, James admitted that he and Nadine are indeed living together during his guesting on Gandang Gabi Vice, as he and TV host Vice Ganda talked about their three-year relationship. “We live together, so, like...did you know that already? Okay, well, we live together," confessed the actor. "Yes, we live together, and sometimes kasi, araw-araw kayo nagkikita, no space, sometimes you get too comfortable, but then there's days when she's working, super busy, parang ngayon, and when she gets home, it's like, we really miss each other still, kahit isang araw lang.”

AUGUST 2019: Nadine shared the secret to her solid relationship with James during the premiere night of her film, Indak. “Communication and trust. Kailangan may tiwala kayo sa isa't isa,” she said. "Kahit ano pa ang nararamdaman mo, kahit nakakahiya, kailangan sinasabi mo talaga. Hindi naman pwede nanghuhula na lang ang partner mo palagi."

SEPTEMBER 2019: News of James leaving Viva, his talent agency for more than seven years, grabbed the headlines. Speaking with PUSH, the actor assured fans that his working relationship with Nadine “hasn’t been affected at all” by his decision, adding, “We're still working together. We're all on good terms, which is great. I just have a bit more freedom now, that's all."

OCTOBER 2019: Appearing on Tonight With Boy Abunda, James said that it was Nadine who was at his side when he was contemplating leaving showbiz because of “people telling me how to be and what to do with my life”. According to the actor, it was around this time, after he booked a solo trip to Japan to try and escape his problems, that his relationship with his girlfriend started to kick off. "With her, I didn't have to pretend to be anyone. I could just be myself completely,” he said. "She helped me through the darkest time of my life, and I've been there for her for hers."

JANUARY 2020: Rumors swirled that James and Nadine had separated after some noticed that the two have been absent from each other’s social media feeds through the holidays, despite the actor himself saying in a December 31 interview that he would be celebrating New Year’s Eve with his girlfriend in Rockwell, Makati. His statement was supported by photos that later went viral across social media platforms.

Nadine eventually belied the rumors, specifically addressing a column by Philippine Star editor Ricky Lo.

Amid the breakup speculations, the two were seen together during a group hike with friends at Mt. Ulap in Benguet. A photo of the couple sitting side by side atop the mountain was shared by James on his Instagram page, captioned, “I’ve come to understand that what we’re looking for is found in the absence of searching. And the answer found in the absence of questions. If you know what I mean, it’s time to tune in. If you don’t... then aren’t you lucky. So this is me, tuning in.”

They were later spotted together during a getaway in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, which turned out to be a work trip for their cover shoot for a fashion magazine.

On January 20, just days after the trip, Nadine and James shocked their fans with the confirmation of their breakup through a joint statement released via Tonight with Boy Abunda. “It’s true that we have split up, but not for all the reasons that are being spread on the tabloids and social media, but because after quiet and mature conversations, we decided to focus on ourselves not only for our careers but more for our personal growth as we are still young and we want to achieve as much as we can,” they said.

“We agreed that going separate ways was best for both of us. We are in good terms and are still really good friends and will continue to work with each other especially when it comes to music,” they added.

The two went on to thank their fans for their “undying support” and wished for their continued support “now and in the future.”
