IN THE BEGINNING

Zanjoe was studying at the San Sebastian College in Manila when the late talent manager Douglas Quijano discovered him. To start his career, he was groomed to join modeling contests and appear in TV commercials. In a 2017 interview on the talk show, Tonight with Boy Abunda, it was revealed that he auditioned for a hosting job in the now-defunct showbiz talk show, The Buzz.

In 2006, Zanjoe caught the attention of the showbiz industry, from mere enthusiasts to the movers and shakers, when he finished fourth place in the reality competition, Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition.


MORE STELLAR ROLES BECKON

When Zanjoe left the Big Brother house, he was immediately cast in a few supporting roles in TV shows, including the hit fantasy series Super Inggo (2006). In the series, he played the role of the superhero, Super Islaw, which was originally played by Richard Gomez in the movie Super Islaw and the Flying Kids  (1986).


CROSSOVER TO THE BIG SCREEN

Zanjoe’s first movie, You Got Me! premiered in 2007. In the romcom, he played a street vendor of counterfeit DVDs who’s apprehended and enamored by a policewoman (Toni Gonzaga). To help him woo her, he enlists the help of another law enforcer (Sam Milby), who turns out be secretly in love with his co-worker.

FILM SERIES

Zanjoe was part of the cast of the first installment of the popular Kimmy Dora film series, Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme, where he played one of the two leading men. The other leading man was Dingdong Dantes. This was also Eugene Domingo’s first lead role in a film.


TV HITS

In 2009, Zanjoe twice starred in a TV series with Anne Curtis: first in Dyosa, then in The Wedding, which also starred Derek Ramsay. The following year, he co-starred with Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama series, Lovers in Paris.


ACCIDENTAL COMEDIAN

Zanjoe showed his comedic skills when he was cast in the gag show Banana Sundae, first from 2009 to 2010, then he returned in 2013. 


SERIOUS DRAMA

In 2012, Zanjoe, along with Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, and Dingdong Dantes, starred in the box-office hit One More Try. The movie won the Best Picture award at the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival.


LEADING MAN

Zanjoe got the lead role in the 2014 hit TV series, Dream Dad, where he was paired with Beauty Gonzalez. The Zanjoe-Beauty pairing formed the BasLex love team, which is a portmanteau of their characters’ names, Baste (Zanjoe) and Alex (Beauty).


ON A ROLL

Zanjoe is currently playing the lead role in the TV series, Playhouse, his first team-up with Angelica Panganiban, six years after they worked on the movie One More Try. Playhouse premiered in September 2018.
