More than his fan brawls and risqué underwear ads, #ThirstyTita-friendly Justin Bieber recently made another headliner, one much so because it involved a Filipino celebrity. The 23-year-old pop star last Tuesday answered to Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu’s comment while he was on Facebook Live. The Biebs responded to @chinitaprincess’ comment being a Filipino fan, “Chinita, I will see you in the Philippines.” His words, of course, sent Kim to frenzy.
It wasn’t Kim’s first time fangirling over Hollywood celebs, her first one with Kim and Khloe Kardashian in one of the socialites’ live chat sessions. And such wasn’t the first time international celebs have said hi to our local talents either. Still remember the #blessedt ones who made it to these global stars’ radar? Click on the gallery to start reminiscing!
1. Janine Tugonon and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue
Miss Universe 2012 first runner-up shared a bit of The Script’s concert publicity in the Irish band’s act here seven years ago. This was after the group’s front man Danny O’Donoghue succumbed smitten by the beauty queen’s, well, beauty in their backstage meeting. What looked to be a fan meet-and-greet would only mar Janine’s then-relationship with her longtime boyfriend.
2. Anne Curtis and Gong Yoo and Justin Bieber
Anne has been quite expressive about her K-drama addiction on both her Twitter and Instagram accounts, especially when it came to her big crush on Goblin and Train To Busan star Gong Yoo. Just recently, she even tweeted about her “Goblin’s bride” #claims such that Gong Yoo had to comment back with “You are really beautiful.” This only sent Anne going more fangirly than usual.
But Anne’s first legit encounter with a foreign hottie was actually in 2013. In an episode of Gandang Gabi Vice, the show’s host and Anne’s close friend Vice Ganda revealed that Justin Bieber actually asked for her number in the American singer’s visit back in the Yolanda aftermath. Anne, loyal to beau Erwan Heussaff, could only politely decline!
3. Georgina Wilson and Kanye West
Georgina met Kanye at the Singapore’s Sing-fest Music Festival in 2010, where he made an effort to ask for her e-mail address. Her response? She simply laughed it off!
4. Daniel Padilla and Stephen Curry
The Golden State Warriors' main man Stephen Curry met the Teen King in his 2015 visit in the Philippines. That same year, the NBA superstar even followed Daniel on Twitter!
5. Maureen Wroblewitz and Tyra Banks
After posting her Nylon Singapore cover on Instagram—her first cover ever as part of winning Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5, Maureen Wroblewitz also got some props from America’s Next Top Model host and supermodel Tyra Banks herself. “Pinoy pride! Mama TyTy is so proud of you!” Tyra commented on the Pinay model’s IG post.
6. Liza Soberano and the WORLD!
Many refer to Liza as the “babaeng pinagpala”—and being noticed by international hotties is just one proof. In 2014 and 2015, Justin Bieber and former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello followed the actress on Twitter. In The Vamps’ concert here in both 2015 and 2016, the band’s vocalist and guitarist James McVey expressed his admiration over her by posting their selfie together. All The Vamps members even followed her on her social media accounts. Last year, Charlie Puth tweeted to invite her to his concert in Manila only to be declined. That same year, one of the members of The Chainsmokers also gushed over the actress in a pre-concert media interview right. Only a few weeks ago at the Toy Convention 2017, international actors Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Carribean’s Gibbs), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool’s Colossus), Lindsey McKeon (Supernatural’s Tessa), Charlie Bewley (Twilight’s Demetri), and Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad’s Katana) even took turns in taking photos next to that event’s special guest, Darna.
