When Kelly Liwanag’s ABS-CBN-inspired doodles went viral in July, he took it as both a surprising and humbling experience.
“I really wasn't expecting something big. Yung sakin naman, share my works and post it online, use hashtags, pay tribute, and make people smile. And the interesting thing, it looks like maraming napangiti, seeing the interactions and the reactions when I posted the work. So, it's a good thing," he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Kelly, a graphic artist based in Laguna, had been following the ABS-CBN franchise renewal controversy in which the House Committee on Legislative Franchises conducted 12 hearings. He continued to draw even after lawmakers voted against the franchise renewal on July 10, 2020. What started as a couple of doodles evolved to more than 50 public figures of ABS-CBN, ranging from its news anchors to executives to artistas. Some of his subjects were suggested to him while others were of the network's journalists who’d reacted to his art.
As explained by ABS-CBN News, Kelly takes his time to perfect the doodles. These pen and ink creations, which are searchable on social media, are first drawn on sketch pad sheets. From there, he takes hi-resolution photos and digitally corrects them before uploading the finished products online.
