Ocean sustainability is a movement that started in the 1990s. Over the years, there has been a sizable effort into making sure that our oceans are well taken care of especially with the current tide of sea issues in the Philippines. Within local proximity, Accor Hotels’ properties in Manila have started their commitment to sustainability through "Planet 21"—a worldwide, five-year program designed toward positive hospitality experience through sustainable operations.
For its fourth year in Manila, the Philippine Sustainability Month (formerly Sustainable Seafood Initiative) has pledged to have a unified standard with fishing methods not harmful and destructive to aquatic life. As Philippine Sustainability Month Co-Initiator Christian Schmidradner has said, “This year, we are focusing on discussions on the development of a local sustainable seafood standard for Philippine fisheries and aquacultures which means we need to establish guidelines to ensure seafood purchases come from sustainably certified source."
As part of the recently concluded month-long series of events organized for the Philippine Sustainability Month, Sofitel Philippine Plaza hosted a sunset and seafood experience with its stakeholders. It especially featured Accor chefs from Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Raffles & Fairmont Makati, Novotel Manila Araneta Center, and Joy-Nostalg Manila who all showcased their best seafood dishes everyone else can try in Manila.
