Vania Romoff is easily a household name in local fashion. Hailed as the youngest Metrowear Icon by Metro Magazine last year, she has dressed celebrities like Anne Curtis, Kathryn Bernardo, Erich Gonzales, and Leila Alcasid. She has the CITEM and Manila FAME First Fashion Eco Design Competition awards attached to her name. Yet, with this kind of influence, the flourishing design diva has also contributed in terms of philanthropy. In 2016, for examlle, she and four other designers joined local brand Plains & Prints for a show that benefited and supported ICanServe Foundation.
This year, Vania is dressing some Kapamilya stars for the upcoming ABS-CBN Ball—all for the benefit of Bantay Bata 163.
“Philanthropy in fashion design means being able to leverage fashion to effectively influence and generate awareness for the greater good. An exhibit of fashion on a universal platform such as the ABS-CBN Ball is a great way for media to create public awareness for certain causes,” Vania tells ABS-CBN Lifestyle of her participation.
“The idea of celebrities walking the red carpet for a greater cause means that the impact of their presence is used to generate conversation around the importance of the Bantay Bata foundation. This of course means that as designers, we need create pieces that excite the public and in turn encourage public discussion about the cause,” she adds.

For Vania, this cause has inspired her to create modern Filipiniana pieces in Vania Romoff fashion—something to grace the ABS-CBN Ball carpet and beyond. “(Expect to see) contemporary interpretations of the traditional Filipinana that echo my design aesthetic of clean lines, refined details and feminine influence,” explains Vania, who this weekend is tailoring for Leia Alcasid, Shiana Magdayao, Ruffa Guttierez, and, excitingly, a "new" star to watch.
In the spirit of giving back, Vania says, “It always inspires (me) when fashion is used for philanthropy. It creates a deeper sense of purpose to create pieces that are meant to encourage good will.”
