California is home to palm trees, the coast, and stylish men and women. And like the French women and New York gals, California girls have their own style that is just as known: laidback but effortlessly chic.
Because the Cali weather calls for it (bright and sunny during the day, cold and windy during the night), West Coast girls are all about cool, easy and very low-key pieces. Recently, it-girl cousins Martine Cajucom-Ho and Isabelle Daza went to Los Angeles for a quick getaway. They toured the city and went to famous theme parks in their best LA-approved looks. And since Martine has lived in Los Angeles in her mid-20s, she has, of course, mastered out the formula for the California Girl style.
Add to the usual collection of denim cut-offs, booties, leather jackets, and layered gold jewelry, here are some style formulas that will up your California-cool fashion!

Dress + strappy sandals
For LA girls, they take brunch seriously. And what do they wear to brunch? Vintage dresses (or a cute top and midi skirt) and strappy, barely-there sandals. However, if it’s a night out, ladies also usually wear it with a leather jacket and a sling bag.
Casual suit + heeled sandals or sneakers
Summer suiting in light fabrics like linen and seersucker is another staple for more formal events. Dress up or down your suit with heels or sneakers. You can even swap your trousers for jeans for a comfier look. For some, you can also opt for a blazer-and-shorts number.

Shorts + Birks
Despite its masculine look, Birkenstocks can actually look very chic and fashionable when worn. West Coast girls love to pair their Birks to almost anything: denim cutoff shorts, baggy jeans, and even dressy skirts! Why do they love it? They’re. Super. Comfortable.
Workoutwear as every day wear
Activewear has become a staple in LA, that people wear them to the gym, to the mountains, and even to errands! In this photo, Belle and Martine chose matching unitards and sandals for their hiking trip. The easiest way to master this trend though is to wear your cutest sports bra, leggings, a jacket tied around your waist, and slides.
