Editor’s note: Maris Racal recounts her start in acting, and gives us inside scoop on what to expect from her character on the upcoming teleserye Pamilya Ko.
A week after Pinoy Big Brother All In, binigyan agad ako ng MMK (Maalala Mo Kaya) episode. For some reason, nagkaroon sila ng trust sa akin. It was with Mr. Nonie Buencamino so it was a very big deal. I had no acting experience—kahit workshops or classes, I never tried back then. First ko talaga was MMK in 2014. Good thing, Sir Nonie is an acting teacher. Tinuruan nya ako.
Ngayon, nakakaadik yung feeling na every time I think I nail a scene. Gusto kong ulit-ulitin yung expressing extreme emotions—parang healthy sya. It’s also exciting kasi I get to be someone else for a moment. Not to be ma-ego, but I believe that I was born to do this. It inspires people and yung supporters ko natutuwa sila kapag may MMK ako. That gives me hope.
Between 2014-2016, doon talaga ako tumodo sa acting workshops. I did them religiously. For every scene na binibigay sa akin, ang goal ko lagi was: first attempt, perfect na agad. I only stopped kasi nagkaroon ako ng maraming projects. Every project is like an acting class naman, because you get to learn. Pag off-cam you can talk with the veterans and nagbibigay sila ng advice sa’yo.
On Pamilya Ko, ito yung first role ko sa teleserye na malaki. I’m part of the family and it’s a family drama. I’m very happy to be given this project kasi may mga eksenang extreme. May lalaking mag-te-take advantage sa kanya and dahil sa pagiging adik nya sa social media, may maling mangyayari sa character ko. May mga nangyari talaga na, “Oh my God.” Ang hirap gawin kasi very challenging sya, maraming taong nanonood. Buti nalang nalagpasan ko sya.
