The action and drama star we all know and love Dingdong Dantes is now a father of two—Zia and Ziggy. With the adorable new addition of their baby boy, the 39-year-old is set on staying strong and healthy for both himself and his family.
But parenting doesn’t get easier as you add more kids, the hunky matinee idol told ABS-CBN Lifestyle at the Ensure Gold press event held last July. He and wife Marian Rivera are back to square one relearning how to parent a newborn, he said.
“Surprisingly, hindi namin naalala noong nagkaroon kami ng first child. Pinagdaanan namin yung first milestones…pero parang bago ulit—which is good kasi ayaw namin maging systematic na, ‘Oh yeah! We know the drill.’ It is a completely new experience,” he said.
As any father would be, Dingdong is excited to see his kids grow up and experience new things with him. He draws on memories with his father in the hopes that he can recreate them with his own son.
“Maybe one day we can ride (motorcycles) together just like how my dad and I rode together,” he said.
For his little princess Zia, however, Dingdong may have to tick a different box off the milestone checklist. He explained, “Letizia seems pretty amazed sa pagkanta at pag-perform. I’m looking forward to seeing her take lessons—siguro piano or any musical instrument kung saan sya magpakita ng interest. As soon as she’s capable, we’ll get into it and I’ll support her all the way.”
Thus, all this and more only serve as inspiration for Dingdong to live a better life, to stay healthy, and to be fit, he said. “The purpose has to be greater than just yourself. More than just ‘being fit’, it has to be a way of life in terms of quality and how you want your family to be in the future. Magiging effect nalang yung pagiging fit kung ang gusto mo ay magkaroon ng sustainable na buhay na malakas at happy.”
Dingdong has gone the extra mile—extra 26 miles in this case—to stay healthy by joining his first ever marathon in September, “Looking back years ago, I would say, ‘Hindi ako sasali doon! Sino bang sira-ulong magpapakasakit ng katawan to go through 42 kilometers?’ But then, yung motivation ko this time is greater than just myself.”
Dingdong continuously works on finding that perfect balance in what he eats, his exercise, and quality of work so that he stays strong enough to be an active father.
“I fear the time na hindi ko na sya magagawa with them, kapag nanonood nalang ako from a distance,” he confided.
Whether it be as an actor, a dancer, a husband, a father, a #fitspiration, or #dadgoals you can’t NOT admire Dingdong!
