In the new television commercial for Ensure Gold with HMB, actor Dingdong Dantes is seen performing alongside Geleen Eugenio. The commercial is reminiscent of his days as an Abztract Dancers member—being choreographed by the dancing legend.

Talking exclusively to ABS-CBN Lifestyle, Dingdong, who turns 39 this August 2, recalls how his cousin and pioneer member Arthur Solinap invited him to watch them perform in the hopes of getting him to join the dance group. “Nanood ako, 'tapos nakita ko parang ang saya noon kasi they were a bunch of teens just enjoying the stage together. Kita mo talaga na very dynamic and professional yung ginagawa nila. Kumikita sila, pero nag-e-enjoy. Sabi ko, ‘Okay yan! Subukan ko kaya.’ So, I got into it and mula noon, it completely changed my life.”
At the young age of 16, he’d already found his calling. He was with contemporaries Dino Guevarra and Sherwin Ordoñez. “Diba, at 16 years old, hindi mo naman talaga alam yung gusto mong gawin sa buhay? Nalaman ko na yung heart ko is inclined sa entertainment industry.” Nevertheless, his career was cut short when he decided to finish school less than a year after joining Abzstract Dancers.
Looking back, Dingdong—now a happy husband to Marian Rivera with two kids—realizes that dancing was the stepping stone that would mold him into the successful actor and TV personality he is today. “Pinursige ko hanggang sa nagbukas na ang ibang mga pinto. Here I am now, just loving what I do.”
