In Focus: Ex PBB Housemate Mitch Talao's Life As A Trans Mom

Former Pinoy Big Brother: Otso housemate and trans woman Mitch Talao met her soulmate in transgender man Dudz Ibañez. The two eventually conceived a baby together, who is now their two year-old son Eros. The two finally solidified their love story as they tied the knot right inside the Big Brother House. They had the dream wedding of their life.

Right now, Mitch and Dudz live the low-key, domesticated life with their child back in their native Lucena. Traveling back to Manila for this special feature on LGBTQ+ parents with ABS-CBN Lifestyle, Mitch sits down to tell us more about growing a family as a modern parent.

What do you think about as a parent?

Sa ngayon, ‘yung future nya. Going to three years old na sya next year, so mag-aaral na sya. Saka syempre, ‘yung basic needs nya.

What’s your favorite thing about being a parent?

‘Yung challenge. Kasi syempre, first time namin pareho magka-baby. Like before, no’ng baby na baby pa sya, napupuyat kami sa madaling araw, tas magtitimpla ng gatas, ‘yung kusang nagigising ng madaling araw, ganun.

Can you walk me through a day in your family/household?

No’ng pagkalabas ko sa PBB house, back to normal life. After no’n, papaliguan, bibihisan si baby, then magla-lunch. Tapos dinner. So gano’n lang everyday. Hands-on kami kay baby, simula no’ng pinanganak sya, talagang kami yung nag-alaga sa kanya. Full-time momshie ako!

How would you describe your child?

Kasi two years old na sya, so sobrang likot pa nya. Pero malambing sya. Matalino din siyang bata. Madali syang maka-pick up ng words, marunong na syang mag-count, one to 20 alam na nya, saka ‘yung alphabet! May alam na rin syang songs, colors, shapes, and animals. Favorite nya ang animals at animal sounds. Saka jolly syang bata, talented sya. Nakanta sya, nasayaw sya.

What are ways that you show love to your child?

‘Yung sa pag-aalaga talaga. Sobrang caring talaga ako, minsan OA (over-acting) na nga ako kasi solo pa lang naman kasi sya ngayon.

What are some of the ways you discipline your child?

What are the traits you want to instill to your child?

Gusto ko, may takot sya sa Diyos. Saka ‘yung maging magalang syang bata. Kahit hindi sya gano’n katalino, basta magalang saka mabait sya.

How have your child shaped and taught you?

Sobrang laking pagbabago simula no’ng nagka-baby kami. Mas naging responsible kami, tapos naging matipid. Naging mas mature, natutong mag-budget ng pera, change in all aspects talaga!

How do you want your kids to remember you?

Gusto kong maalala nya kami na mabuti kaming parents. Na kahit LGBT kami, as parents, we're good people pa rin.
