PMAP Talks: Three Decades of Success

PMAP Talks: Three Decades of Success

By Ana Sideco

Back in 1987, models have decided that enough is enough. Oftentimes, modeling wasn’t considered as a professional job and more often than not, models were being exploited. Thus, a group of models banded together to make modeling a profession. They sought to seek reasonable working hours, protection from modeling projects, and to standardize compensation for model bookings. In February 11, 1987, the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP) was born. Contrary to popular belief, PMAP is not an agency; it is a non-profit organization run by the models themselves. Its mission is to uplift, protect, and professionalize the modeling industry in the Philippines, and it believes that the models can work together for their own protection and progress. Fast forward to three decades later, PMAP is now stronger than ever.

To celebrate its 30th year anniversary in 2017, PMAP has launched a campaign called “I AM PMAP.” The campaign highlights the new generation of models who are smart, multi-tasking people with various projects and advocacies.  PMAP aims to improve the overall image of models—they are, indeed, more than just pretty faces.
