In Focus: These 5 Couples Prove That What's Meant To Be Will Always Be

Breakups are never easy. And sometimes, it's a painful decision to make because one or both of you wouldn't want to let go yet. But that thing called growth would be sacrificed if you stay. While drifting apart may seem like a tragedy, it's actually a natural process that would help you fully realize who you are (and who you're meant to become) and be more ready to be in a committed relationship with another soul.

So, if you're currently in a relationship that demands space or you've parted ways with someone that you truly love, here are five couples who will prove to you that growing separately is totally okay and that good things will spring from it:

1. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

These two lovebirds first confirmed their relationship in 2010 after meeting on the set of their film The Last Song. Since then, we've witnessed their "straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel" (literally!) journey. In 2012, Miley and Liam announced their engagement, only to call it off a year later. This was the point where Miley had her Wrecking Ball phase which also allowed her to rediscover herself.

Fast-forward to 2016, the fated sweethearts got back together as an engaged couple. And, finally, in December 2018, the two officially tied the knot, proving that they are each other's forever.

2. Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber

From meeting way back in 2009, being in a squad with the Jenners, to denying dating rumors, Hailey and Justin have always been on our radars. In early 2016, the two spent New Year's together and confirmed that they're casually dating. After their August breakup, the two weren't on speaking terms for two years. Justin reignited his flame with Selena Gomez, but they fell apart not long after.

In 2018, Jailey is finally friends again, which quickly progressed to PDA-filled moments together. Come July, Justin proposed to Hailey, and four months later, our Baldwin girl changed her Instagram handle to @haileybieber. After that whole rollercoaster ride, we're so happy that there's officially one less lonely girl!

3. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik

It was in January of 2016 when Zayn Malik released his debut solo single with a music video featuring Gigi Hadid, and thus confirming dating rumors that started swirling since November of 2015. From their cute social media posts to their red carpet appearances, Zigi became that power couple we all adored.

Two years later, they announced their breakup with personal statements on Twitter. "Whatever's meant to be will always be," Gigi wrote, which was eventually proven to be true when they started appearing on each other's Instagram accounts again in October 2018.

Last January, the two reportedly broke up again, but Zigi fans aren't losing hope! After all, soulmates will always find each other no matter what, right? It's only a matter of growing apart until they're ready to meet again.

4. Tin and Raf from Alone/Together

Yes, Tin and Raf may be fictional characters, but their story couldn't be any more relatable. Played by Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, the two were college sweethearts, but life got in the way when Tin graduated, leading her to break up with Raf. Five years later, the two met again, only to find out that they've changed so much from the bright-eyed kids that they once were. It's a natural thing to happen, but it wasn't easy for both of them to get back together with the person that each of them has become.

But after doing some inner work and rediscovering themselves, Tin and Raf ended up together right where they started–at the steps of the National Museum, ready to take on the world together as the best versions of themselves.

5. Catriona Gray and Clint Bondad

For six years, Catriona and Clint have been inseparable, and they've been there for each other through thick and thin. They're the kind of couple who loved travelling together and supported each other's careers in every way they could. Clint even flew to the Miss Universe competition to show his love for his queen and witness her claim the crown.

But, in a sad turn of events, Catriona recently revealed that she and Clint are no longer together. She shared that they've grown apart, and that she wanted to take time to discover herself as she goes through her journey as the reigning Miss Universe. She says, "I think it's really important as an individual, because you need to know what you want, who you are, to be establishing your identity as your own person."

We don't know the fate of their relationship, but we wish them both the best as they take on a new chapter of their lives. Growing apart is natural, and time can only tell if the universe will bring them back together again.

Things may be confusing and painful after parting ways from the person who once felt like your other half. But, farewells are necessary so you may grow into the person you're meant to be. Perhaps, once you're both ready, you'll find your way back to each other again like so many couples did in the end. But if not, what's important is that you took the risk to fly on your own and cultivated the only relationship that will matter the most–the one that you have with yourself.
