Not too long ago, the idea of being a photographer turned into reality for the guy behind the mysterious hashtag you'd always encounter on some of your fave celebs' online snaps. Andrei "#AndreiShotThe" Suleik, 25, is one of few millennials who can say has worked with the hottest and brightest names in local showbiz. He himself may be badged now as a "celeb photographer," with an impressive following of almost 67k and James Reid, Nadine Lustre, and more above of his regular clientele of personalities. But tracing his roots, it was actually cinema that served as his career launchpad.
At first, Andrei wanted to become a filmmaker. He would intern for a film outfit, where he was once tasked to take behind-the-scenes photos and videos for a particular shoot. He found joy in that experience, inspiring him to buy his own camera and pursue the art.
As with Andrei's case, shooting for fun led to booking actual jobs. It was a great coincidence he was already good friends with celebrities who would ask him to take their Instagram snaps. The professional turn happened when one publishing company messaged him offering to hire him as a photographer. “Sunod-sunod na,” he recalls.
In an era when you can easily take and edit photos with readily available gadgets and apps, Andrei knows the key in a competitive industry like entertainment photography is being passionate and personable. He keeps himself motivated and encouraged these days by the people he gets to works with—building real and lasting relationships with them. ‘’I think important sya kasi as I try to establish trust and comfort, it also makes the photo looks nice and genuine,” he explains.
Yet, with his young success, Andrei seeks to thrive further. His new title as brand ambassador for FUJIFILM's instax series is just one proof of his obvious rise.
