In case you’re living under the rock, these past few days Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray is seriously making rounds online as she struts her stuff during Miss U’s preliminary competition in Bangkok, Thailand. Catriona—who’s becoming an early pageant favorite—made her signature “lava walk” and drew gasps from the audience when she made a dramatic slow-mo twirl in her hot pink bikini for the swimsuit competition. Not to mention how she stunned everyone in the long gown competition, wearing an intricate glittery orange gown with a long side slit created by the fashion designer Mak Tumang.
Here are a few snippets of Catriona’s breathtaking performance:

There are obvious reasons on why Catriona made it to the Miss Universe stage, and why no one was surprised that she did. This beauty queen is a model in the classic mold, and a timeless Eurasian beauty if you’d ever seen one. She proves as much on social media with her countless beauty and #OOTD posts.
But as we all know, beauty pageants also go deeper than their contestants’ most obviously beautiful features, and there is far more to Catriona Gray than immediately meets the eye. Her fans would probably know that she’s a talented singer, a black belter in Choi Kwang Do (a modern offshoot of Taekwondo), a painter, and lastly—perhaps the most crucial trait every beauty queen most possess—Catriona is a well-spoken advocate of various causes, including the fight for social justice, inequality, HIV awareness and youth advocacy.
So it truly is no surprise that Catriona Gray deserves to represent us in this year’s Miss Universe pageant. And here at Chalk, as a youth-oriented platform, we compiled the many times our queen showed her love and support for today’s youth. Check out the gallery above to see!
