Cheat Sheet: This Is How You Do Music Festival Chic

Were you ever compelled to wear a flower crown to that music festival just because almost everyone else has one on?

While our Coachella sisters will be so proud Manila took after their penchant for those floral headpieces, it just might be time to retire them already. Wear them if you really want to, but not because everybody else is wearing them, okay? The great thing about music festivals is there's no need to dress to impress—laidback pieces take centerstage, made unique by each person's own brand of confidence.

But of course, there are still those tried-and-tested style combos that that are guaranteed to make you look f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c without looking like you tried too hard (and that effortless vibe is something that never goes out of style). Here are standout outfit ideas for your music festival escapade (starting off with Wanderland Music & Arts Festival 2016 presented by Globe tomorrow—they've got Death Cab for Cutie and Bon Iver as headliners along with other top international acts like Naked & Famous and San Cisco, and local faves Cheats and Crwn & Jess Connelly, among others):

Cropped top + denim cutoffs. The top preferrably in lace and the shorts in a cool wash or fade. This is a go-to look for music festivals because it strikes a balance between style and comfort—you can dance, jump, and run around in it.

Basic black + denim. We highly suggest veering away from an all-black ensemble as music festivals are supposed to be relaxed and too much black can be heavy on the eyes. Pick a black top that has fun details like pompom or tassels, and pair with denim if you want to be more on the edgy side.

Bustier-like top + skirt. Again, look for those that incorporate lace or crocheted details into the top, and for the skirt, try the buttondown type (this is a hot trend for summer!). This is a girlier take on the usual cropped top and shorts combo, but still has that hip vibe to it.

The maxi dress. This one's for you if mixing and matching is not your thing. While for sure many will opt for colorful pieces at the music festival, go for white—not only because it'll surely make you glow in a sea of prints, but also because it's light and airy perfect for all night dancing and partying.

"Style is always a priority, but never forget to wear something comfortable and something that won't be a hassle for you," shares blogger Kim Cruz, a frequent music festival goer. For the boys, think statement tees, skinny jeans, shorts, and buttondowns—layering is key for a more fun look.
