There's no doubt that Kisses Delavin's career has sky-rocketed the moment she endearingly captured our attention in Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7. Currently, the 19-year-old sweetheart is everywhere, and her massively strong fanbase is one proof of that.
But behind her success are the two people who have always been there for her since the beginning, and they're none other than her parents. “To say that my parents have been supportive is an understatement,” Kisses shared. “It’s not enough to describe everything they’ve done for me. My parents entrusted their business to a manager just so they could come to Manila and assist me!”
It’s only natural for any parent to support their child especially when they’re confident that their child is already on a clear path to success. However, according to Kisses, her parents’ support dates way back before she even qualified for PBB.
Kisses had only finished her first year in college when she asked her parents for a three-month leave so she could join pageants. As expected, her parents reacted violently but eventually granted her request. “They trusted me enough even though wala naman kaming kinakapitan,” she said. Sure enough, she joined two pageants during her time off school and she brought home two crowns. “For a parent to let their kid explore what she wants to do—that’s a really big thing. They let me spread my wings and learn from my mistakes.”
When asked about the greatest lesson she learned from her parents, the young star confidently answered in a heartbeat, “They taught me to always do what is right.” Kisses told the tale of how her parents made an honest living, started a business out of scratch and sold newspapers, trinkets, and pens to earn their capital. It was from her parents that Kisses learned that it didn’t matter just how little they had—what matters was that they knew they were doing nothing wrong and they were not stepping on anyone.
And because of the many things that Kisses is grateful for when it comes to her parents, it's only fitting that everything she does is rooted in making them proud and happy. "After everything they’ve been through in life, I want to give them the happiness that they deserve, and all they want is to see their child successful," she said. And this is why she strives to be as hardworking in her craft as much as she could while finding the utmost joy in it.
If there's one thing that Kisses would like to instill in her younger audience, it's to give value to their parents and allow them to be part of their life's journey. "Life is just a collection of moments," she concluded. "And I want to spend it with my parents. Life is short and I don’t want to miss a single moment with them."
