Every year, the guys at Pantone Color Institute announce the one color that’s bound to make an impact in the todays color-obsessed world. Ten years ago, it was Blue Iris. Five years ago, Emerald. And last year’s was, of course, Greenery.
For 2018, their chosen hue is none other than Pantone 18-3838, more commonly known as Ultra Violet.
What makes pantones special are the deeper meanings they carry. Ultra Violet, for instance, can be understood as an intriguing blend between brilliance and uniqueness. It celebrates experimentation and, according to Pantone Color Institue Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman, “lights the way to what is yet to come”.
Pantone cites pop icons like Prince and Jimi Hendrix for spearheading the purple reign of the 80’s. Almost four decades later, many Filipino celebrities are continuing the legacy. We spotted a number of them rocking ultra violet and similar shades in recent weeks (and even months prior)! Check out how they’ve integrated the color and its philosophy in their personal style.
