By now, you’ve probably either: a. Streamed episodes of US series Jane the Virgin, after learning about it from the Internet, or b. at least gotten really curious about it after seeing the TV plugs of its upcoming release on ABS-CBN’s primetime block. Its premise is too out-of-this-world that you just wouldn’t be able to help it but check it out for yourself—how ironic is it that you save yourself for marriage but accidentally get impregnated through artificial insemination during a visit to your gynecologist?—and the whole vibe of the series is fun and light albeit it’s actually a drama, that you’d find yourself antsy waiting for the next episode.
After all its cast is primarily composed of Latinos, a race we Filipinos can very well relate to, looks and culture-wise. As a matter of fact, lead actress Gina Rodriguez says the series has a lot of similarities to Philippine culture, in terms of “hospitality, the desire to make someone feel good and welcome, and the giving nature of Filipinos.” In an interview during her visit to Manila, Gina also revealed that she loves the Philippines, even sharing her obsession for adobo (which she got a first taste of from her best friend’s mom, who’s Filipina) and her desire to try out balut.
But you know what we can learn from Gina herself? How to embrace our curves! Check out how this Latina beauty dresses fabulously for her body type, and how you can, too!
