You don't need to purchase expensive furniture for your home. In fact, you can make use of your current furniture and do the makeover yourself. Interior designer and DIY blogger Michelle Rimosa-Sy suggests you repaint furniture you've purchased from department stores (or in her words, small, “low-end” furniture shops) to give them an upgraded and trendy look. She's got some tips to ensure that you'll also have fun while getting down and dirty as you transform your home:
1. Since most furnitures from department stores are finished in laminated wood, you should lightly sand the surface first to make sure your paint will not chip post-makeover.
2. In painting the furniture, use a paintbrush for the edges, and a paint roller for the surface.
3. While this is optional, add a coat (or two) of polyutherane to protect the paint from wear and tear.
