#PiaWurtzbachInManila: Be Ready for Queen P's Homecoming!

Finally, the day has come for Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach to visit the Philippines, a month after making history as the third Filipina to win the prestigious title. We're sure a lot of you are excited for her return, so to help make your efforts in seeing Pia easier, we have come up with a primer on the best time(s) you can see Pia during her week-long stay in the Philippines, and the dos and don'ts you should bear in mind (Trivia: There's actually protocol that should be followed when interacting with the new Miss Universe):

1. Arrival

Pia will be arriving tomorrow, January 23, at around 6AM. Security at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will be very tight, as expected, so it's really not advisable to wait there to get a glimpse of her (save your efforts for the January 25 motorcade instead). From the airport, Pia will be escorted to Cubao, where her home for the next week, Novotel Araneta Center, is located. Good news: No roads will be closed for Pia’s arrival.

2. January 25 Motorcade

After doing courtesy calls at Malacañang and the Senate in the morning, Pia will start her motorcade at the Sofitel parking grounds at 2PM for the first leg, which will end at Rustan’s, Makati. From there, she will be brought back to Araneta Center at 5PM for the second part of her motorcade, which will happen around Cubao. Be reminded that the MMDA will be applying the stop and go scheme similar to what was done during APEC. As per MMDA's advisory, the northbound lane of Ayala Avenue will be closed starting 3:30PM for the motorcade.

3. Your road strategy

If you are commuting or driving around Manila and Makati on January 25, avoid Atang Dela Rama Street, Vicente Sotto Street, F. Ma. Guerrero Street, Bukaneg Street, Roxas Boulevard, Padre Burgos Street, Taft Avenue, Finance Road, Quirino Avenue, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, and Ayala Avenue, as these are part of Pia’s parade route.

For those commuting or driving around Quezon City, expect heavy traffic in Cubao late in the afternoon when Pia arrives for her motorcade.

However, if you want to get a glimpse of Pia, take very good note of these roads. Remember to bring Philippine flags (Pia’s request) to show support for her during the motorcade. Also, the color motif for the motorcade is royal blue and white, so you can prepare your OOTD as early as now.

4. In case you get stuck...

Given that Pia's homecoming is a major event, it's highly probable that your time on the road will be affected by it at one point or another. Should that happen, remember these two words: KALMA LANG. It has been 42 years since we last won at Miss Universe, and it wouldn't hurt to sacrifice a bit in celebration of her victory, right?

5. What you should do when you see her

As part of Miss Universe protocol, onlookers (media personnel included) are not allowed to do the following with Pia: Take selfies, shake hands, ask for an ambush interview, and sign autographs. Bear in mind that these restrictions exist because safety is the top priority during Pia's week-long visit to the Philippines.

6. A busy week for the queen

Though not open to the public, Pia will be having a courtesy call with city mayors and at the House of Representatives on January 26, and she will be spending January 27 doing charity work. Details are scarce on what charity work Pia will be doing on that day, but it is confirmed that the Miss Universe organization will be partnering with Smile Train, which is known for raising awareness for children with cleft lip and palate.

7. Homecoming special for Filipinos

To culminate Pia’s visit to the Philippines, she will have a Homecoming Special at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on January 28. It's open to the public so Pia can interact with her fans and do the walk she never got to do on the Miss Universe stage, in front of her biggest supporters—her fellow countrymen. There are little details to the event that have been disclosed, but there is a possibility that Pia will be joined onstage by Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz and Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran-Floirendo.
