The Roundup: J-Pop and K-Pop Dominate January

It’s the start of a new year, and for sure many of you are already saving up for upcoming concerts for this year. For the month of January, K-Pop and J-Pop fans are up for a treat, as EXO and One OK Rock will be performing. In addition to EXO and One OK Rock, here are other events that you (and your friends, family, or even special someone) can check out:

The Game’s Afoot. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan, you’ll definitely dig Repertory Philippines’ inaugural play for its 79th season. From January 15 to February 7 at Onstage Theater Greenbelt 1, see William Gillette in The Game’s Afoot unleash his inner Sherlock Holmes as he tries to prevent a killer from committing more murders in Connecticut.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Their return to the Philippines this time around will be special, as they celebrate the 10th year of their album “Don’t You Fake It”. Even better, for the first time ever, they will be performing all the songs in the album. Catch them on January 14 at SM Fairview, on January 15 at SM North EDSA Skydome, and on January 16 at SM Seaside Cebu.

Nate Ruess. Loved his vocals in songs like “We Are Young” and “Just Give Me a Reason”? January 19 is your date to remember, as Nate Ruess will be performing as a solo artist at the Kia Theater. Check out his song “Harsh Light” to familiarize yourself with Ruess as a solo performer.

One OK Rock. One of the most popular J-pop rock groups, One OK Rock will be finally performing in the Philippines, after three petitions made by its dedicated fans, on January 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Chicago. It’s a definite must to catch Chicago live now that they will be inducted to this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You can catch the iconic American rock band on January 20 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

EXO Manila. One of the most popular Korean Pop (K-Pop) groups worldwide, EXO will be treating Manila to exciting performances on January 23-24 at the Mall of Asia Arena as part of its “EXO’luXtion” World Tour. Here’s “Transformer”, one of the songs from their latest album Exodus.

Neck Deep. If you are a fan of Fall Out Boy, you might want to consider watching these pop punk kids from Wales perform on January 28 at the SM North EDSA Skydome. Not familiar with them? Try listening to some of their songs like “Growing Pains” and “Losing Teeth” to familiarize yourself with Neck Deep.

Fusion Music Festival. Following the success of the first Fusion Music Festival last year, OPM artists will gather once again for this year’s Fusion Music Festival, themed “ImagiNATION," on January 29 at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. The best of OPM such as Ebe Dancel, Gary Valenciano, Bamboo, Parokya ni Edgar, and The Dawn make this festival a must-visit.

The Vamps. The pop group from Britain will be returning for the second time, now with The Tide and Before You Exit, for their #3LogyInMaila tour on January 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Check out the latest singles from The Vamps and Before You Exit, and an awesome cover from The Tide to familiarize yourself with the three bands.
