There was a time, not too long ago, when we were free. Free to enjoy simple pleasures like visiting friends, going to the mall, dining out, and watching movies. Free to splurge and indulge in shopping sprees, concerts, out-of-town trips, and vacations abroad. And free to just go about our daily lives with no worries or hassle. Then suddenly, life as we know it was put on hold.
The COVID-19 pandemic has become the most brutal disruptor of our generation to date. Seriously affecting almost all businesses and livelihood, this global health crisis of epic proportions curbed people’s mobility with travel bans, lockdown orders, and fear of an invisible enemy. The tourism and hospitality sector have been hit particularly hard.
But as quarantine guidelines slowly relax around Metro Manila and in the other major cities around the country, many are eagerly anticipating the chance to take a much-needed break from their extended stint in seclusion. If only to release months’ worth of bottled-up anxiety, longing and distress, these individuals are more than ready to break free and take their revenge by treating themselves to a good time in a place where they can feel safe. It will be retaliation that can do a lot of people a lot of good because not only will it help in their personal mental and emotional healing, but it will also contribute to the revival of the tourism industry.

In anticipation of the rise of the revenge travelers, home-grown hotel brand Richmonde Hotels has spent the lockdown period planning and preparing for the return of its leisure guests. According to Area General Manager Jun Justo, “Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Richmonde properties, namely Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, have constantly been on high alert, making sure that our guests and staff are always properly protected while inside the hotel premises. So from these best practices, we developed the Safe Stay program to establish the cleaning standards, safety protocols, and protective measures in accordance with the recommendations of the Department of Tourism, the Department of Health and global health experts.”
The blueprint of the Safe Stay system is based on six main points pertinent to the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus: (1) staff health, safety and hygiene, which includes regular health checks and issuance of PPEs; (2) guest screening, which involves temperature scans and completion of health declaration forms; (3) protecting hotel environment, through a no face mask/face shield, no entry policy, provision of disinfecting foot mats, and hand sanitizers, among others; (4) physical distancing, via visual cues, adjusted dining set-ups, use of eConcierge for contactless guest service, and the like; (5) intensified housekeeping methods; and (6) modified policies, procedures and offerings. Regarding the upgraded cleaning methods, Justo shares, “It is important to note that enhancements in cleaning, sanitation and disinfection processes are only as good as the cleaning supplies and equipment used. For Richmonde, we use only high-grade products from Ecolab, the global leader in hygiene and infection prevention solutions, and utilize UV light sanitation in our guest rooms and public areas.”

The stringent measurers under the principles of the Stay Safe program allows Richmonde to confidently uphold the wellbeing of all guests who visit. But a sanitized hotel isn’t the only thing revenge travelers want. Since the economy is still in a slump, there is still a need to be prudent. Because of this, Richmonde created several promotions that would entice vacationers and local residents or staycationers, and maybe even business travelers to book or re-book cancelled reservations, with its reasonable rates and delightful add-ons.
“To welcome guests back, Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Eastwood Richmonde Hotel and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo have launched their respective special promos, offering our lowest rates so far,” stated Area Director of Sales and Marketing Lynette Ermac. “Currently we have room deals inclusive of full board. Although we are initially targeting repatriated OFWs and returning Filipinos, we believe these packages will also be an attractive option for leisure travelers when they can already stay in hotels.”
For a more luxurious stay, the Richmonde Hotels will launch special promotional packages with plush inclusions such as breakfast and dinner meals with afternoon refreshments, cocktail drinks, and a relaxing in-room massage. “It will be the perfect city getaway for those wanting a quick escape,” assures Ermac.
Staying as a matter of necessity? Richmonde, with the strategic locations of its properties, can provide convenient addresses for those in need of lodging for 2 weeks, a month, or even more. From safe spaces and discounted rates to exciting and useful amenities, Richmonde gives more bang for your buck and makes sure long stays are as comfortable as can be. Guests on extended stay can also avail of discounts on laundry services and food & beverage orders, even grocery shopping assistance.
