In Focus: What To Expect Entering Your Favorite Malls This GCQ

Since the closure of malls and establishments brought about by the lockdown, many of us have shifted our routines online—shopping for essentials, included. But after about two months, with NCR and many places now being placed under general community quarantine (GCQ), we have been finally allowed to enter malls and stores—only with stricter guidelines.

For the health and safety of its employees and patrons, malls are implementing strict hygiene measures. They now require mask-wearing and social distancing, provide alcohol dispensers and thermal scanners, and sanitize the place every so often. While many retail stores are opened, they have kept cinemas, fitness studios, and other shops that invite people together closed. All these guidelines, malls do follow in accordance with the government’s regulations to assure customers that safety is the priority.

While we suggest you stay home and only go out when necessary (try online shopping as much as possible!), we list down here reopened malls that maybe of help with your essentials and the measures they're on to keep you safe.

Ortigas Malls

Ortigas Malls (Greenhills, Tiendesitas, Estancia, and Industria) are now open from 10 AM to 6 PM. To ensure the safety and health of its mallgoers, Ortigas Malls has provided sanitized foot mats and temperature check in every entrance. Guests must also use alcohol and wear masks at all times, and a regular sanitation every 30 mintues is done throughout the mall. 

However, if you prefer not to enter the mall, Ortigas Malls' Click & Collect (C&C) Service is also still available. This provides a designated pick-up area for customers who make purchases online from mall tenants, plus parking areas designated for online platforms dropping by for delivery.

Ayala Malls

Aside from the mandated GCQ guidelines, Ayala Malls now also uses a top-of-the-line thermal imaging scanner to accurately measure the temperature of a group of people at a time. These are installed in entrances with high traffic in the following malls: Glorietta, Greenbelt, Market! Market!, Alabang Town Center, Ayala Center Cebu, Central Bloc, Abreeza, Centrio, Trinoma, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, UP Town Center, Ayala Malls Feliz, and Ayala Malls Fairview.

Rockwell Malls

Power Plant Mall, The Grove, Arton Strip, and Santolan Town Plaza are now open daily. All Rockwell Malls follow a No Mask & No ID, No Entry policy, and all other health and safety precautions.

SM Malls

SM Malls are practicing #SafeMallingAtSM as more malls open during GCQ—from providing the necessary health and safety tools such as alcohol, disinfecting mats, thermal scanners, to providing masks and shields and doing rapid testing of employees.

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls is also now open to mallgoers. Aside from the basic community quarantine health guidelines, its roster of malls has also installed disinfecting chambers at entrances providing thermal body temperature scan, and UV Sanitizers on escalator handrails. Megaworld has also conducted rapid antibody testing on their employees before deployment and are require to wear protective gears. 

If you prefer a hassle-free and contact-free transaction, you can just drive by to pick up orders from restaurants and shops via the Drive-Thru & Pickup Services at at Eastwood City, Uptown Mall, and McKinley Hill. Araneta City

Malls and establishments within Araneta City, including Gateway, Ali Mall, New Frontier Theater Arcade, Cyberpark 1 and 2, and Farmers Plaza, are now open starting June 1.

Contactless payment is also highly encouraged to shoppers to limit physical interactions, as well as physical distancing and disinfection procedures also implemented on site.
