On May 5, 2020, ABS-CBN stopped its free television and radio operations in compliance with the cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission. The country’s largest media network bid its indefinite farewell with a heartfelt sign-off narrated by none other than the voice of ABS-CBN himself, Peter Musñgi.

From television commercials to network announcements, Musñgi's voice has become a familiar sound to generations of Filipinos. With more than 30 years of voice-over experience, it’s almost hard to believe that his foray to the industry was the work of fate.
Growing up, Musñgi had no intention of becoming a broadcaster or announcer. During his high school summer vacations, he found himself volunteering to help spin records at a radio station then managed by his sister and brother-in-law. He wasn’t allowed to adlib or even speak in front of the microphone.
This changed when Musñgi was invited on a whim to do a time check. That blocktimer experience eventually led him to become a male radio announcer trainee for the FM program we now know as MOR 101.9.
His Business Administration degree from the University of the East notwithstanding, Musñgi's career with ABS-CBN took off exponentially. He wore many hats throughout his tenure, including head of Manila Radio of ABS-CBN, Managing Director of ANC, and the Head of ABS-CBN Sports. Even after he retired, he continued to VO.
As prominent as his voice is, Peter still finds amusement in anonymity. The 74-year-old loves taking public transport without being recognized and relishes when people ask whether he really is the voice behind so many ABS-CBN’s content.
The ABS-CBN icon has said in many interviews that his most challenging and emotional experience task was announcing the passing of Eugenio Lopez. But to this generation, he will be remembered as the very last voice heard upon the network’s sudden shutdown.
