Kitchen Whiz: Easy Dalgona Alternatives For Non-Coffee Drinkers

You know what else is taking over social media other than TikTok, Instagram Story bingo, and the "Until Tomorrow" challenge? Dalgona coffee! Following its popularity in South Korea, this creamy, easy-to-make coffee has since sent everyone making their own right at home. This, especially after people saw it on this user's TikTok account.

Not really a coffee drinker? Worry not as the Dalgona coffee can still be enjoyed in different ways—check out these recipes below that will make you enjoy the craze without the caffeine!

MatchaDalgona

Ingredients:

  • Ice
  • Milk
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 1 egg white

Instructions:

  1. Separate the egg white into a small mixing bowl. Beat the egg using a whisk or an electric hand mixer until frothy and fluffy.
  2. Combine the sugar and water on a pan. Let the sugar syrup simmer, do not stir the mixture.
  3. Slowly pour the sugar syrup into the mixing bowl with the fluffy egg white. Beat the mixture until glossy.
  4. Add matcha powder and whisk until the mixture takes on a smooth consistency.
  5. Pour the milk into a glass of ice and top it off with the matcha mixture.

Milk Tea Dalgona (Korean Sugar Candy)

Ingredients:

  • 100g sugar
  • 30g starch syrup
  • 7g baking soda
  • 5g black tea
  • 110ml ice
  • 150~200ml milk

Honeycomb instructions:

  1. Mix sugar and starch syrup in a saucepan.
  2. Once sugar melts and turns yellowish, add baking soda. Mix well.
  3. Pour honeycomb into a baking paper and let it harden.

Milk tea instructions:

  1. Steep tea for 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a glass, put ice, milk, black tea, and honeycomb.

Milk Tea Dalgona (without the honeycomb)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp Thai milk tea powder
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions:

  1. Combine Thai milk tea powder, sugar, and hot water in a mixing bowl.
  2. Beat the mixture for 3-5 minutes using a whisk or electric hand mixer until it turns into a thick and creamy consistency.
  3. Pour the milk into a glass of ice. Top it off with the mixture.
