Ambassador Laura “Lullah” Quiambao-Del Rosario, former Department of Foreign Affairs undersecretary and diplomat, was named 9th president of Miriam College (MC).

She officially began her term on October 1, 2019.

Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario led a distinguished career in diplomacy. She has an outstanding track record of 37 years in the Philippine Foreign Service, which culminated in her appointment as Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs from 2011-2016

She received the Gawad Kamanong Presidential Award (the Grand Cross) for her work in economic diplomacy in 2012 and the Sikatuna Presidential Award for her work as chair of the Senior Officials’ Meetings for the APEC Manila Summit in 2016.

She served in various capacities in Philippine Embassies abroad, including Vienna, Singapore, and Washington, D.C. Her last appointment was as Philippine Ambassador to India and Vietnam.

Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario is a graduate of Maryknoll College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree major in English Literature, magna cum laude. She is also a recipient of the Mother Mary Joseph Award, the school’s coveted award for outstanding students. In 2003, she received the Amazing Alumni Achiever Award for her life and work achievements.

She holds two master’s degrees: Master of Arts in Literature, benemeritus, from the University of Santo Tomas and Master of Education major in Educational Administration from the University of the Philippines.

A seasoned educator and academic leader, she started her professional career at Maryknoll College where she taught literary studies and served as Director of Admissions of the College. She continued to serve her alma mater as a Trustee of the Board prior to her appointment as Miriam College President.

The MC Board of Trustees, through its Chair Josefina N. Tan, said that it is honored and excited to have another alumna leading the school. “The Board trusts that Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario will bring Miriam College forward with wisdom and passion, as we work towards further strengthening Miriam College in Quezon City and Nuvali, Laguna, with the future opening of our third campus in Porac, Pampanga.”

Her extensive work in the foreign service and diplomacy will further enhance the school’s present efforts to expand global partnerships and academic opportunities.

Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario succeeds Dr. Rosario Oreta-Lapus, who served as president of MC from 2010-2019. The Board thanked Dr. Oreta-Lapus for her “excellent leadership” and “putting the school in a good and strong position for the future” through her innovative approach to learning and teaching, particularly in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM); her contributions to ensure a flourishing co-educational campus in Nuvali; and her role in the strategic acquisition of a third site in Porac, Pampanga.

Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario will be inaugurated on February 5, 2020, at Miriam College and will be sworn in by Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Prospero De Vera III.
