Achieving our dreams is not instant, and there are definitely no shortcuts. Working towards one’s goals require a lot of hard work. And with our fast-paced environment now, we are pushed to maximize our resources, specifically time and energy.

However, when we start to hustle too much, there’s a huge chance of us burning out. Despite wanting to be productive at all times, we must not let work take over our lives. Is the physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that comes with it really worth it? Here are some ways on how we can look after ourselves while hustling:

1. Listen to your body.

Since we’re human beings, we can only do so much. As we work our way towards our goals, we should never underestimate what we’re feeling, both physically and emotionally. Whether it’s a slight headache or the lack of motivation, listening to our bodies closely will help us take care of it properly.

2. Learn to say no.

Being easily available every single time takes up so much of our energy. Although we are sometimes encouraged to be "game" and try to open up to possibilities, we still need to learn how to say no. Not everything is worth the limited resources we have.

3. Spend time with family and friends.

Always remember that your life is not solely about working hard to achieve whatever plans you have already set. Living is also about surrounding yourself with the people closest to your heart. The time spent with our family and friends is what will inspire all of us to do and work better at all times.

4. Take a break.

No matter how long our to-do lists are or how much work is waiting to be done, let’s not forget the significance of taking a break in our lives, specifically in our well-being, every once in a while. Despite the satisfaction you can get from ticking off every item on your list, once the exhaustion kicks in, you can always pause and rest—life still goes on.

5. Stay away from any toxic energy.

Whether it’s your colleagues, the ongoing national issues or just general sources of daily stress, consciously making an effort to stay away from toxic energy like these things is what we should do. If we want to remain sane during our journey towards our goals, we should begin cutting off some negativity from our lives.

6. Know your priorities.

Work-life balance is important. Managing all aspects of your life and allocating enough time for each may seem to be the most ideal situation. In reality though, this doesn’t seem to be the case. There will always be parts that need to be sacrificed in order for you to work on the more important ones.

7. Work smart.

To work hard is to give it your all—doing every task listed nonstop until you finish everything. Meanwhile, to work smart is to organize every task according to importance and set a realistic deadline for each. Instead of consuming all your energy in one go, learn to allocate them properly, so you won’t reach the point of getting drained.

We all like to believe that being too busy is a good thing. Although accomplishing a long list of tasks and meeting deadlines are what we aim for, taking care of ourselves during the hustle should also be our top goal.
