Daily Diaries: A Day In The Life Of A Digital Content Producer

When I graduated in college, I've never guessed that I'll be having my first job at the biggest network here in the Philippines ABS-CBN and be assigned to their digital magazine CHALK.PH. Being hired as this online platform's Digital Content Producer, I got a chance to harness my skills and set up a strong foundation in my career.

If you're interested to be a Digital Content Producer, and you think all you'll do in this job is only write articles the whole day, then there are a lot of things that you still don't know about this job! From content planning with the team to interviewing personalities at events, this is how my day usually goes as a Digital Content Producer!

10:30 a.m. - Time in

Since I have flexible hours (which means I don't have to follow a nine to five work schedule,) I usually arrive at the office at around 10:30 in the morning, with my brunch in hand. Once I'm in front of my computer, the first thing that I do is open our editorial calendar to check the assigned articles that I have to write for the day, then research topics I could pitch to our editor for the week.

11 a.m. to 12 n.n. - Lineup meeting and Content planning

Every week, we have a lineup meeting, which is when the writers like me would pitch topics for the week to our editor. From content about celebrities to tips for college students, our meeting usually lasts for about an hour because we have to cover every category on our website. Sometimes, this is also when we would have our content planning with the whole team and talk about videos we'll produce, topics we would write, celebrities and public figures we need to interview, and the personality who'll be our cover for the month.

12 n.n. to 1 p.m. - Lunchtime

There's nothing much to say about this except when I'm in a hurry (like if I have an event in the afternoon, but I haven't written an article yet,) I usually eat while I write.

1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Write articles

As a Digital Content Producer, I'm required to submit two articles a day. That's why when I'm writing, I just put all my attention on doing it because I need to reach my quota. One of the things that help me write faster is listening to music while I work. It doesn't only relax me, it also helps me to focus more since I get easily distracted with noises.

4 pm to 4:30 pm: Go out for fresh air

Just like everyone, I need to breathe, too! That's why when I get a chance to finish my articles early, I give myself time to think outside of work even if it's just for 30 minutes. What I do is I go and hang with my work buddy at the office garden to get some fresh air. We also talk about work, love, or just life in general for 30 minutes. Honestly, this has helped us a lot especially when things get overwhelming at work.

4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Draft articles for tomorrow

Since most of my days at work consist of meetings and events, I always draft or start writing articles that are assigned to me for tomorrow before I leave the office so I'm sure if ever there are sudden changes in my schedule, I would still be able to pass my articles for the day and wouldn't get stressed because I'm pushing myself to finish early.

6 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Go to an event

Most of the events I go to start around this time, that's why I make sure I'm already done with my articles before I go to the event. I usually interview celebs, take photos and videos for our social media accounts, mingle with other members of the press, and list down fascinating stuff about the event that I can write about once I'm there. But if I don't have any event for the day, it's also around this time that I go home and have dinner with my roommates.

Honestly, my first few months as a Digital Content Producer were stressful as I still needed time to get used to it since this is not like most regular jobs. But once I have gotten accustomed to it, I began having fun more! A day in the life of a Digital Content Producer in a digital pplatform needs a lot of creativity, resourcefulness, and flexibility. If you dream of having this kind of job and believe that you have what it takes, then maybe this is indeed the job for you, too!
