Reality survival programs like YG Entertainment's WHO IS NEXT and JYP Entertainment's Sixteen have produced groups that instantly reached K-pop stardom. Since then, more agencies and channels have created survival shows and formed groups that gained large fandoms like Wanna One and IZONE from Korean channel Mnet's Produce. That's why a lot of fans got excited when Mnet announced that they would be launching a new format of K-pop survival show which is called Queendom.
Instead of trainees and idols from different agencies competing, it would be established K-pop female acts who would gather and compete through a series of comebacks! The winning group will have the title of the "Queen." Premiered last August 29 with acts MAMAMOO, AOA, (G)I-DLE, Lovelyz, Park Bom, and OH MY GIRL, this show has instantly become the most-anticipated survival show this year.
Every Thursday, these groups release performances, aiming to reign the charts. If you want to see the five fiercest performances from Queendom so far to get you hooked, we listed down below!
1. "Destiny" by Oh My Girl
Received more than one million views on YouTube within 24 hours, Oh My Girl's performance of Lovelyz's "Destiny" is one of the dreamiest covers you'll ever see! With an arrangement using traditional Korean instruments, members dressed in dark traditional costumes, and their angelic voices, this performance truly deserved to be awarded first place in Queendom's second evaluation. It even reached high rankings on Korean digital music charts like Naver, Bugs, and Genie!
2. "Good Luck" by MAMAMOO
Described as one of the best performances of MAMAMOO ever, this outstanding girl group performed AOA's "Good Luck." From giving us their rendition of the song to each member providing us a mini-concert, saying their performance is powerful is an understatement! MAMAMOO lit the stage in their own way which is why it's certainly an impactful performance we would forever spazz about.
3. "Señorita" by LOVELYz's Kei and MAMAMOO's Hwasa
In the third evaluation of Queendom, LOVELYz's Kei and MAMAMOO's Hwasa became partners. When they were brainstorming ideas, the two decided to go with Billie Eilish's "Wish you were gay." But the two surprised everyone at the workshop when they suddenly performed their flawless rendition of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s “Señorita.” This unexpected twist has received a round of applause from the other contestants because of how rich and classy it is!

4. "Fire" by (G)-IDLE
As a third-generation group, (G)I-DLE has been a huge fan of their legendary seniors 2NE1. When they found out that they'll be competing against one of its former members Park Bom, the girls didn't waste time showing how much they admire her. (G)I-DLE covered 2NE1's debut single "Fire," which made Bom cry because she feels thankful. Besides making this a tribute of performance, the group added a twist by doing a fierce dance break in the bridge, which proves that they're one of the most talented groups of this generation.
5. "HANN (Alone)" by Park Bom
Tasked to cover (G)I-DLE's "Hann," Bom felt excited about it right from the start. With her incredible vocals and intense stage presence, she proved exactly why she's a K-pop icon! As much as (G)I-DLE and their fandom NEVERLAND adored the cover, BLACKJACKS also gave their support more when they saw Bom made the four-finger sign of 2NE1 at the end of her performance.
Queendom will be airing their final episode on October 31, which means that there are still a lot of upcoming stellar performances that will certainly make avid survival show fans thrilled! Who do you think deserves to reigh as the Queen? Let us know!
