For those that are always restless and constantly looking for something new and exciting to do, myself included, there’s only so much that we can do in the city. Even with new activities popping up on the regular, nothing beats being outdoors and really doing something out of the regular. With ultralight flying you get all that, and more. Ultralight flying, as the name suggests, is flying in a small lightweight plane, and what’s great is, pretty much anybody can try it! So if you haven’t tried it yet, here’s why you should!
One of the best reasons why to try it out is because it’s just so close to Metro Manila. You can try out flying an ultralight plane at the Angeles City Flying Club in Pampanga, which is just about an hour and a half to two hours by car from Manila. In just the same amount of time you’d usually spend in the city’s traffic, you’d already be able to enjoy the fresh air and open greens while getting to fly your own plane!
This already goes without saying. The mere fact that you can get a chance to fly up to heights of thousands of feet in the air, with pretty much nothing below you and beside you, is already an incredible experience in itself. Fresh air, unrivaled views, and the cool breeze of the high altitude, will make you forget all the stress in the city, and would make you want to keep on coming back.
It isn’t difficult to learn
Being how relatively simple an ultralight plane is operated compared to the bigger aircrafts we’re used to seeing, learning to fly and maneuver it isn’t too difficult. All there is to control the plane are pedals, a stick, and a lever. Of course, it’d take some time to get used to, but after a few flights, and given you pay attention to your instructor, you’d be well on your way to flying the plane by yourself!
As intimidating as being in a tiny aircraft thousands of feet in the air may seem, flying an ultralight plane is very safe. Safety checks before flights are always done to make sure the plane is safe to operate, you’d have an instructor with you at all times to fly the plane and teach you at the same time, and given how light the plane is, even if the engine stalls, the plane can simply glide back down safely to the ground.
Easy on the pockets
The best part, all this won’t cost you that much! Aside from the fact that you won’t have to spend much on transportation getting to the airfield, introductory flights can cost as low as about PHP 2,900. That’s a great deal for an experience that you’d surely keep with you for the rest of your life.
