Put your hands up in the air if you agree with me: Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo have given their own refreshing spin on Angelo Buenavista and Yna Macaspac, bringing these iconic characters closer to the younger generation. Based on ratings alone (the pilot episode had a 34% share), it’s apparent that the Teen King and Queen, who worked really hard to nail their own take on the characters of Yna and Angelo, succeeded. Their acting chops are commendable, but aren’t you curious to know what else they did to prepare for this big project?
“After we found out that we’re doing the show, mas pina-fit kami, ni-ready talaga kami for the roles,” recalled Kathryn, who’s currently into TRX, which she finds fun and really effective. Looks-wise, the Teen Queen didn’t undergo any transformation—not even cutting her hair. She’s got a lovely, tanned looked though, which she admitted was unplanned. Her healthy color came from their long taping days under the sun.
Daniel, who’s reprising Jericho Rosales’ character in the original series, on the other hand, revealed he’s not really keen on going to the gym. “Nag-ba-basketball ako, hindi ako nag-gy-gym, tamad ako eh,” he said of his noticeably more buff physique.
Kathryn also had to take cooking lessons for more Yna Macaspac realness—as we all know, Yna (played by Kristine Hermosa in the original series), was a simple lass who had great homemaking skills.
Pangako Sa’Yo airs weeknights after Nathaniel.
