It's a common scene in every household with a kikay girl in it: Her in the shower, belting out her favorite tunes, applying hair mask, exfoliating from head to toe, and following it with a post-bath skincare routine once she steps out of the shower that will require another waiting period. On the other end of the spectrum is some guy, maybe a bit shy to admit he also tunes up his skin. The reason? Being called “too feminine” or “girly,” that he might see as an insult. In the age of more open-minded guys, celebrity heartthrob Matteo Guidicelli still attests to this.
“I think a lot of men, minsan nahihiya tayo na, ‘Ay, I have to wash my face with soap’ but you guys have to be open about it,” the actor told the press at the Waston’s Facebook Live event for Nivea Men, sharing skincare used to be something neglected back in his youth. “Bata pa tayo, nung teenager tayo, we didn’t care about washing our face. Bahala na. But once you get older, you start developing pimples and stuff so you have to take care of your skin talaga. Hygiene is very important.”

But just the same, it's important to follow hygiene awareness with knowledge, said Matteo. For one, he stressed, always experiment and find a product that will do the trick for you. “You don’t want pimples on your face or whatever so to prevent that and to keep fresh, wash your face with something you can trust, something you believe in, and something that would really take care of you.”
For Yassi Pressman, with whom Matteo endorses the personal care brand, self-care practices can give one’s confidence a boost. “Maganda yung sa labas, inaalagaan mo ang sarili mo para sa panloob din, feeling mo confident ka, fresh ka,” she declared. “Kapag pagod ka galing sa trabaho, bago ka matulog and magpahinga, it’s good to freshen up. Ang pag-aalaga sa sarili ay hindi kaartehan.” It would have been a perfect closing statement to the debate on men's skincare if it weren't for Matteo joking, “Sinasabi lang nila ‘yun pero kapag nanliligaw na sila, lumalabas na lahat!”
