Hot Stuff: ABS-CBN Ball 2019 Goes Filipiniana For Underprivileged Kids

The theme is Filipiniana and fittingly, as usual, it's of service to Filipinos.

By granting underprivileged kids scholarships, ABS-CBN Ball continues its pro-children advocacy as it holds this year's edition on September 14 at Shangri-La The Fort, BGC, Taguig City. The much-anticipated, star-studded event follows last year's cause with ABS-CBN successfully reopening the Bantay Bata Children's Village.

The ABS-CBN Ball seeks to invite stars and other attendees to help fund the Bantay Bata 163 Bantay Edukasyon program, which covers normal education including complete tuition assistance, meal and transportation allowances, school supplies, and other fees. The program also covers counseling, self-development sessions, and basic life skills for the concerned children and their families. It also tackles parenting sessions and career workshops.

Ultimately, the ABS-CBN Ball sees this as a big chance for many personalities to give back, by helping "provide children in need the tool to reach their dreams."

The Ball also honors ABS-CBN Foundation and Bantay Bata 163 founder Gina Lopez, who in her reign spearheaded actions to rescue thousands of children from physical and sexual abuse. Lopez also built the Children’s Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

Last year's ABS-CBN Ball gathered a total of PHP 5 million, used for the construction and rehabilitation of the structures of the Bantay Bata Children’s Village including CCTV training for social workers, the installation of a call and paging system, a Library, and a multimedia room. The village opened its doors in December 2018. It has already served 46 children, with five of them now reunited with their families.

First implemented in 1998 as an aftercare service for rescued children, the Bantay Edukasyon program has since provided 6,400 scholarships.
