In the Cinemalaya movie Belle Douleur, Mylene Dizon, 42, plays a character involved in a May-December love affair. Her love interest? The smoldering Kit Thompson, whose role (and IRL) is 20 years Mylene's junior. The film obviously challenges the idea of an older woman having a younger partner being taboo. This, the veteran actress shares, is a tired Pinoy ideology that needs to change.

“We are still very protective of our older women. It’s not an open topic that’s why siguro a lot of people are watching these films and there’s suddenly a gush of people that want to express and make films like this like, 'Hey! We’ve been locked in for so long!'" Mylene tells ABS-CBN Lifestyle. "This happens! It is not an impossibility nor is it wrong. It’s not just sex or going into a bar trying to hook up with somebody younger than you. When it happens, it’s because it’s love. It’s not just sex or going into a bar trying to hook up with somebody younger than you. It happens."
Mylene, who also stars in iWant's Call Me Tita, also mentions being involved in a relatively similar affair—in particular, with ex-beau Paolo Paraiso who was five years younger than her. “I’m not sure if that counts. Maybe May 1 to May 31 affair. Hindi umabot ng December, hindi nga umabot ng August,” she says in jest.

Mylene, pretty established in the acting craft with her many laurels and years in the business, is now a hot momma to two boys. She's also found peace six years into her relationship with PBA player Jason Webb. And while she seems completely content family wise, being human, she's not one to disregard that attraction toward younger men can still strike her.
"What makes a young man attractive for me would be a sense of humor," Mylene explains. “For me, if I were to be in a group of young, attractive men…I would probably be inclined towards someone who is funny. Siguro kasi sa edad kong 'to, sa dami nang iniisip, dami nang responsibilities. What you’re really looking for is a place where you can just laugh and not care about anything—where you’re not conscious of anything else and and you give it a good laugh!"
