Style Inspo: 6 Tips to Make Tiangge Clothes Look Expensive

By Maan de Vera

Just because it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean it looks good, and the reverse is also true. Cheap clothes don’t necessarily look cheap if you know the right way to carry it.

This is why people are now out to find affordable fashion thrills which in turn gave birth to the popularity of the Taytay Tiangge. Even celebrities are now flocking to this shopping destination because who wouldn’t want to get a great OOTD for a significantly lower price?

Whether you are planning to try your luck in the flea market or you are already a serial cheap clothing fashionista, here are some ways to amp up the look of your hauls:

1. Get the fit right.

One of the things that make tiangge shopping convenient is the fact that everything is free-size. This means you can walk right through the stores and everything in there will fit you. The downside is, it will not always fit you right, and that’s okay. When this happens, you have two choices: 1.) DIY and 2.) go to a tailor. This way, you can make anything look like it was custom-made for you.

2. Replace the buttons, zippers, or straps.

Designer items pay attention to the smallest details like the buttons, zippers, and straps. Sadly, the same is not true for tiangge items. The good thing is that you can always use items from clothes that you don’t use, or you can even have fun and actually shop for these items. The rule of thumb is: if it looks like it can easily break or snap, replace it. Changing small details will instantly give a polished look to your garments.

3. Pair them with quality items.

The key is to match trendy items from the tiangge with quality basic items. For example: match a cute, budget-friendly top with a quality high-waisted jeans or a light sundress with branded sneakers. Trust us, wearing cheap items from head-to-toe will give you away.

4. Hand wash.

Yup. We understand that not all of us like (or knows how) to hand wash their clothes, but hear this. The fabric used in making items from tiangge is not always durable. This is one of the reasons why it’s cheaper in the first place. So, if you want to make your haul last longer, then you just have to take matters into your own hands.

5. Wear the right underwear.

Nothing cheapens a look more than an underwear peeping from places where it's not wanted, moreso, when your clothes are actually cheap. This is why investing on seamless underwear and strapless bras are important. When you have to choose between buying more clothes or buying quality underwear, opt to get intimates right first.

6. Be confident.

Rock your outfit the same way regardless of its price tag. At the end of the day, it’s all about being comfortable in the person that you are and the clothes that you use to cover it. None of these tips can save you if you don’t truly love the way you look. Nothing else can make you look more put together than exuding the right amount of confidence.
