Gone are the days when fair skin is the only type of complexion that’s considered beautiful—and that’s such a refreshing thing! Makeup techniques and beauty trends are now fair game to mestizas and morenas, what with the wide array of techniques and products available out there. Strobing, for instance, one of this year’s biggest beauty hits, works amazingly on both complexion types, albeit using different techniques. And in makeup, as in fashion, it’s important to find the ones that are best for you.
Two ladies who have enviable glowing skin are Pinoy Big Brother 737 Adult Big Winner Miho Nishida and Teen Second Big Placer Ylona Garcia. Their makeup artist, Eman de Leon, who has been wielding his makeup magic on them since their hotel arrest before entering the Big Brother House, attests that both have naturally beautiful skin. He enhances theirs with special techniques, which—good news—he shares with us:
Get Ylona's Look: “I airbrushed a little liquid shimmer on top of the pink blush I put on her. It gave her healthier-looking skin, as opposed to when her cheeks are just piled with shimmer powder. For the PBB Big Night looks, I went from liquid shimmer to shimmer powder this time for that golden glow. The first night, I combined a beige shimmer powder with a gold frost powder and put it on top of her pink blushed cheeks; during the second night, I combined the beige shimmer powder with a baby pink frost powder to get that glow.”
Get Miho's Look: “For Miho’s Big Night look, I was inspired by the 1997 Mariah Carey who was more into the neutral makeup palette—browns, gold, and beige. The super glowing temple of Miho's cheeks was achieved by applying a beige shimmer powder and a gold frost powder, combined, on top of her pink blushed cheek. Miho has really good skin which I envy much. She has a natural glow, literally. She told me she doesn't forget to put moisturizer. This is very important. It also helps in preventing the skin from getting oily.”
Eman, who has also done editorials for some of the leading magazines in the country and is the head makeup artist for The Voice of the Philippines contestants, shares that he totally loves working with these two endearing 737 housemates. “Miho is very fun to be with, she loves having fun, she’s game for new experiences, and her journey from being a simple single mom to being the PBB Big Winner is truly commendable,” he says. Ylona, on the other hand, truly personifies her moniker “Daldal Darling ng Australia.” “Sometimes (if we have enough time), it will take us two to three hours just doing a simple makeup look since we’re both talkative and playful. She's quite into beauty, too, since she's been performing on stage pretty much her whole life.”
He also reveals interesting beauty facts that prove Miho and Ylona are just like us: Ylona’s beauty peg, Ariana Grande and her fascination with the cat eyelining technique. On the other hand, Miho is into fluttery lashes and a strong brow game. "She even puts her falsies by herself, and she has her own adhesive for that, which, she brags, is the best one. I am happy that she's trying new things in her totally new world that is showbiz, like the darker eyebrows I showed her how to do which make her look fresher and younger.”
