Cheat Sheet: Easy Skin Care Tips if You Work in the Graveyard Shift

There's a lot of great perks that come with working the graveyard shift. With less traffic and distractions, more and more of us are choosing to stay true to our night-owl selves and hustle while the rest of the world is sleeping.

Before anything else, let it be clear that we are going to step away from intricate skin care routines because we understand that not everyone has time for that. So if you are down for some low-maintenance tips that will keep your face #skingoals while you work the night away, then read on.

In case you are planning to join #TeamNightShift, or you’re already in, here are the things that you must remember when it comes to skin care.

1. Use day cream at night and night cream during the day.

If you think that you are supposed to use day cream during the night now that you are working graveyard then you are wrong. This is because night cream is designed to lock in the moisture we commonly loose when we sleep (regardless of your sleeping schedule.) On the other hand, day creams are made to allow pores to breathe in order to protect and support the skin under make-up.

2. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.

Water is still the best skincare product. Making sure that you drink eight to ten glasses of water everyday allows your organs to do their thing and flush the toxins out of your body that leads to glowing skin. So maybe it’s time to lay off on milk tea and coffee because you can also have fun with water by adding fruits like lemon and what-nots!

3. Always bring a sunscreen with you.

Never ever ever leave the office in the morning without putting sunscreen first for obvious reasons. Now, this can be tricky as you already have makeup on from your shift. The trick is to use products like spray-on sunscreen or compact powders with SPF. This way, you don’t have to remove and reapply your makeup just to protect your skin from UVA and UVB.

4. Cleanse

No matter how tired you are from working all night, you must cleanse your face before you sleep. No excuses. Skip this step, and you will be taking makeup, impurities, dead skin cells, and excess oil with you in bed. While nothing ever beats actually washing your face with a mild cleanser, you can always reach for micellar water on the days that you just want to get it all over with get your Zs.

5. Give yourself a break.

No amount of product or drinking water can save your skin if you don’t take your sleeping routine seriously. While it’s understandable that it’s more difficult to snooze during the day, you can always use an eyemask and drown out the unnecessary noise with soothing music.

Of course, we all have different skin types and what works for some may not work for others.  Don't be afraid to experiment and see what really works for your skin and lifestyle. However, these basics are a good place to start if you want to keep your skin healthy and glowing all night!
