Where’s The Buzz
Jam in the name of freedom at Okada Manila for the Malaya Music Festival, happening at Okada’s The Garden on June 15. This rockin’ post-Independence Day celebration will feature some of the most iconic OPM acts such as Ebe Dancel, Urbandub, and Mayonnaise, as well as modern sensations Johnoy Danao, Bullet Dumas, Gracenote, and December Avenue. Former PBB All-In housemate Maris Racal made her fangirl dreams come when she and OPM icon Rico Blanco collaborated on her latest single, “Abot Langit.” While it was originally written as an acoustic song, Rico rearranged and transformed it into Japanese City Pop, resulting in the infectious bop that it Is today! The upbeat track was later complemented with colorful a music video, where Maris tapped into her sexier side with a cheeky dance sequence during a house party.
JM de Guzman sure knows how to get us caught up in our feelings, because his latest single “Huling Liham” is melting our hearts. He may be known for his superb acting skills, but the same could be said about his singing voice. In this new track, the actor/singer seems to ask for forgiveness in a form of a letter, hence the title. The perfect breakup song, yes?
On the flip side, if you’re in the mood for a pick me up then this new track from the boys of Tarsier Records—Markus Paterson, Inigo Pascual, and Kyler—is something you need to hear! These three best friends came together with music producer Moophs for a banger titled “Beautiful,” which has all three of them singing about a girl who doesn’t seem to realize her own beauty. Aside from its sweet message, this sick beat is bound to get you dancing and vibing from beginning to end. Time to add this to your Feel Good playlists!
Speaking of Inigo Pascual, the “Dahil Sa’yo” hit-maker left his Instagram followers shook as he seemed to have deleted all his posts and left behind a floral grid, each with cryptic captions. He has since begun posting photos of his trip to the US, where he previously did an artists’ showcase with fellow labelmate, Kiana Valenciano. Many have speculated that Inigo will be releasing new music, as the sudden social media purge is similar to what Taylor Swift and Halsey have done prior to a brand new drop.
What’s the Buzz
Last May 22, Kapamilya stars Piolo Pascual and Shaina Magdayao led the cast of Lav Diaz’ sci-fi dystopia film "Ang Hupa" (International title “The Halt”) as they celebrated its premiere at this year's Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The four-and-a-half-hour movie is set in the year 2034 where Southeast Asia is left literally in the dark due to massive volcanic eruptions, resulting in chaos thoughout the region. Also part of the cast are Joel Lamangan, Pinky Amador, Hazel Orencio, and Mara Lopez.
