In Focus: 6 Times Julia Barretto Proved That She's An Empowering Woman

As one of the "it" faces in the showbiz scene today, Julia Barretto has everything it takes to stun us. But her looks and talent aside, the actress is also adored by her fans, peers, and loved ones for her hard work, determination, and wisdom that effortlessly inspire us to stay true to ourselves and our values.

From bravely sharing the things she truly believes in to refusing to live by other people's expectations, Julia has done a lot of things that prove that she's the epitome of a role model. We're sure that one way or another, Julia's confidence has motivated you to be a woman with pride, dignity, and grace in every situation given. That's why to inspire you more, we listed down the moments that she effortlessly exuded #girlpower.

1. When she accepts her imperfections and flaws...

For someone who looks beautiful inside and out, it's easy to assume that Julia doesn't have any insecurities. Of course, we see her as this gorgeous young actress, but beneath the perfection we see, Julia also has flaws and imperfections she didn't want to accept before. But as she grew older, she realized what's really important. She mentioned in an interview with Sarah Lahbati that the first step to becoming more confident is by accepting everything about yourself including your imperfections and doing things for yourself, not for anyone else.

2. When she doesn't live by society's expectations of being a woman...

It's no secret that Julia isn't fond of wearing a bra, but it's interesting to hear her share the reason behind her choice during her interview on Tonight with Boy Abunda last January 15. It's because, just like some women, she doesn't feel comfortable wearing one and would rather use nipple tapes instead. She frankly stated, “Ako naman din walang kakapitan ‘yung bra,” which shows that she's not afraid to embrace her natural body. She also admitted that her daring style is her way of expressing herself and she believes that there's nothing wrong with that which is so true! This girl isn't limited by society's standards when it comes to how women should dress, and this made us love her more.

3. When she knows her self-worth...

When you're living in a society where people think that they know what you deserve, it's nice to have someone like Julia to help you acknowledge your self-worth. During the time that she and Joshua were having relationship problems, she shared that through her experiences, she learned how to value herself and know what she can and can't tolerate. Before she commits to a relationship or a job, she knows that she has to be complete on her own first, so that she won't rely on anything or anyone to make her feel whole, and that's something we should all keep in mind!

4. When she's not afraid to speak her mind...

One of the things that we love about Julia is the fact that she doesn't let other people's judgments affect her. Whether it would get a positive response or not, she always has been one who freely speaks her mind. She shared once that when you really know how to treat yourself and other people, then others will know how you should be treated, too. From standing up to the things that she believes in to stating her opinions on the things that matter, this girl doesn't sugarcoat anything.

5. When she inspires us to love our own body...

There's no doubt that Julia is one of the most alluring faces today, and she shared that the real secret to her fit figure is balancing everything that she eats and never starving herself. The actress also added that she doesn't base her satisfaction on a weighing scale because she doesn't take validation from a scale's definition of "healthy." According to Julia, if she thinks she looks alright, then there is probably nothing wrong with her. But if she feels like she can improve on something that would make her more confident, then she would go for it. She wants her fans to remember that when we see ourselves in the mirror and we already feel healthy and good about our body, then it's already good enough!

6. When she shows that she's a firm believer of hardwork...

Although Julia bears a famous last name, she achieved everything she has right now at her own pace. According to her, she learned to not compare her pace to others because timing is different for everyone. In an open letter she posted on Instagram, she spoke about the public scrutiny throughout her career. "Other than the fact that I love my craft, I love what I do and I feel strongly passionate about acting— I’ve always wanted to prove myself. I’ve always wanted to prove my doubters wrong. I’ve always wanted to be more than my last name. I wanted my hard work to get the credit and not my last name. I wanted to make a name for myself." And so she did.

An open letter— In my whole journey as an actress, more often I was doubted, I was judged, I had to deal with scrutiny from people who did not know me, who made me suffer the consequences of the mistakes I did not commit and people did not give me a chance. People did not give me the chance to make some mistakes, learn and to better myself. Other than the fact that I love my craft, I love what I do and I feel strongly passionate about acting— I’ve always wanted to prove myself. I’ve always wanted to prove my doubters wrong. I’ve always wanted to be more than my last name. I wanted my hard work to get the credit and not my last name. I wanted to make a name for myself. “I Love You, Hater” is a film I poured my heart and soul into. I was faced with one of the biggest challenges of my life before doing this film and I don’t think I was able to really pour my heart out as Julia and took the chance with Zoey. My every heartache, the every pain I felt in my body as Julia, I used Zoey as my outlet. I wanted to speak to people as Julia through Zoey & this is why I embraced Zoey. I embraced this film. I put down my walls, I let people in and see me at my most vulnerable THE TEAM of ILYH from the actors to Direk Giselle, our writers, staff & crew, Star Cinema ADPROM and ABS CBN worked sleepless nights, braved the strom and worked till our own bodies gave up on us to produce a good quality film. It’s about time they get the recognition and appreciation they deserve. We made a movie to add positivity to people’s lives and make them feel that they’re not alone. We are not going to allow any kind of negativity to lurk around our film From Day 1 of our showing, Joshua and I talk about how overwhelming the feedback, appreciation and love we’ve been receiving. Our journey has been so magical and special because we are getting the perfect amount of support... from our family, our friends, star cinema, our network & our supporters. ?? TRULY, at the end of the day, the Lord’s plan PREVAILS.
