Being famous has its ups and downs. Actress Julia Barretto can vouch for this. Born to actors Dennis Padilla and Marjorie Barretto, the 22-year-old entered the acting world in her teens and has since bagged her own series of commercials, movies, and teleseryes.
For someone so young, Julia has done well for herself. Some of her projects earned her accolades from award-giving film and television bodies like PMPC, FAMAS, and Box Office Entertainment. Her hard work allowed her to build her dream home. In between, she found love in the form of her on and offscreen partner Joshua Garcia.
Still, none of these spare her from bashers. If anything, simply being a public figure makes her an easy target. “I still have to deal with…people doubting my talent and the person that I am,” she reveals.
Early in her career, Julia faced criticism ranging from her coming off “maarte” in interviews to being unfit for certain roles. But these days, she’s learned to block out the noise. When asked how she overcame the hate, her answer goes back to the reason why she became an actress in the first place. “I feel like when you’re truly passionate about something, no matter how hard it gets or no matter how tired you get, you just keep going because you go back your love for your craft,” she explains. “I love it so much that no matter how hard it is to handles sometimes, you just keep going. You don’t understand how you’re able to do it, but you just do.”
Moreover, detractors don’t stop her from wanting to work on herself—for the right reasons. “I wasn’t pressured by people,” she explains. “But I was more motivated to do good at what I’m doing, (to) work harder, to be myself, and be loved for who I am.”
There you have it—the secret behind her sweet success. Come at her, and she’ll only come back stronger!
