Marking the start of festival season, Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is about to bring us another epic weekend this coming March 1-2, 2019. Known for their one-of-kind festival situated in the island of Puerto Galera, Malasimbo is the perfect getaway for the free-spirited music enthusiast in us!
This year, Malasimbo promises to be bigger which is why you certainly cannot miss out on this annual event! Here are top three reasons why this festival is the best way to kick your summer off:
1. The topnotch lineup
Joining headliner Robert Glasper on the first day of the festival is music producer, keyboardist and beatboxer Taylor McFerrin. Filipina lyrical rapper Ruby Ibarra, who wowed the Malasimbo crowd in 2018 as a solo MC, will also be back, this time with the company of a full band.
Also part of the Malasimbo 2019 lineup are bands-of-the-moment IV Of Spades and CoffeeBreak Island. Anomalie, Ian Lofamia band, Extrapolation, I Belong To The Zoo, Carousel Casualties, Extrapolation, Dayaw, Manolet Dario, and many more will also be taking the main stage.
Aside from the exciting music acts, Malasimbo 2019 will also feature works by visual artists Leeroy New, Olivia d’Aboville, Agnes Arellano, Hohana, and Denis Lagdameo.
2. Bigger venue
The 9th edition of Malasimbo will be held in a bigger and more accessible venue. Moving from the Malasimbo Amphitheater, the festival will now be held in White Beach, Puerto Galera, featuring breathtaking jungle with beach access and postcard-worthy sunset views.
Taking advantage of the bigger venue, the festival will feature bigger and more stages this year. Staying true to Malasimbo’s closeness to nature, there will be the traditional Main Stage, which will be in a natural amphitheater again, nestled in the midst of trees. The main stage will feature jazz, soul, world music and OPM.
The DJ Stage is the newest Malasimbo stage dedicated to Dance Music. It will host a wide array of local and international DJs including legendary DJ from New York Danny Krivit, Kristian Hernandez, Manolet Dario, Emel Rowe, Badkiss, Nomoclasiq, and more. The DJ stage will be lively until the early morning, in time for festival goers to witness the magnificent sunrise by the beach.
There will also be a Silent Disco stage, which will feature three DJs providing different music choices.
3. Affordable tickets
Tickets to the 2-day festival is priced at P4,000. If you're opting for a 1-day pass, the price is at P2,000 for Day 1 and P2,500 for Day 2. And the good news is that there's a 20% student discount! We'd leave the math to you, kids, but we're telling you that this solid beach/jungle party is going to be worth it!
