In Focus: 7 Lessons From 'Alone/Together' That Millennials Can Relate To

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you can just stop here. But for those who already did, then you're very much welcome to relive all the feels that LizQuen's Alone/Together brought us! Aside from the undeniably nakakakilig chemistry of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, let’s not deny how the all the hugot of this movie touched our hearts one way or another. It made us realize some thoughts we should definitely ponder upon – specifically how change, be it planned or unexpected, remains to be the only constant thing in our world.

Here are some of the key takeaways that every millennial can pick up from the movie:

1. Choose someone who would support you enough to make you fly.
Being with someone who support you is great – however, this kind of support must be all the way and not just partial, no restrictions, no holding back, which should be enough to make you fly and live up to your full potential, just like how Raf fearlessly pushed Tin to go to New York and continue to pursue her dreams–all in, 100% support!

2. Be courageous and take a risk.
It’s okay to have fears but always remember to not let those get in the way of your plans and aspirations. Yup, it’s scary to take that leap and expect everything to fall into place – but not stepping out of your comfort zone, being stuck in the known, is a much greater risk. Good thing, Tin was able to get back on track when she finally had the courage to quit the job she settled for and started looking for one that she truly deserves!

3. Life is too short to let go of someone you want to keep.
Sometimes, life happens which forces us to let go of someone who we know is worth keeping for the rest of our lives. However, life also teaches us that it’s short, especially when you're in the medical field like Raf – so when you find your person, his being Tin, we fully hope you fight for them because you never know, chances like this may only happen once.

4. Not fulfilling a dream during the expected timeline doesn’t mean you failed.
There are times when the universe is not really telling us a straight up ‘no’ but instead, just a ‘not yet.’ Maybe a better timing is prepared for us in achieving the bigger things in life. Tin might have gone through tough times, her dreams have been slowly crushed because of a job, a painful reality indeed. But let's not lose hope–always remember that not fulfilling those dreams on time, the way we planned it, is not a sign of failure. Just trust the process.

5. “Traydor ang mga alaala”.
Yesterdays play a vital role in the nows as well as in the tomorrows. Memories are a nice lane to walk down on every once in a while. But let’s be real, they’re not always happy and can be haunting sometimes. Yup, it’s good to look back on the past because it has lessons too – but never get stuck and let it define you. Tin may have already gotten to her lowest point, but she got up and did not let that someone she once were, someone she really didn’t want to be, stopped herself from transforming into someone whom she believes she should be.

6. You may want to change the world, but sometimes it changes you instead.
Seeing the world through hopeful eyes is oftentimes how we plan to make a difference. With so much faith and burning passion, nothing seems impossible. However, life isn’t solely about ideals but more of the reality. Tin and Raf once dreamed of changing the world, together, but suddenly life got in the way and it changed them instead. Surprises may come which eventually changes us – but with enough optimism, we can always work our way around this for the better.

7. Never give up on your dreams.
Sometimes working towards achieving our goals and reaching our aspirations is a trial-and-error process. We may succeed the first time but the possibility of failing is there too. Although this can be frustrating and exhausting, we must always keep our eyes on the prize. Tin and Raf remind us to just keep trying and never, ever give up on your dreams, even the wildest ones. One day we'll all get to our Mets and MoMAs. *wink*
