Year after year, the season becomes even more exciting for UAAP athletes and fans alike. Especially now that we see tables turning and underdogs making their mark in collegiate sports history.
Yesterday, however, was a gloomy day for the supporters of the De La Salle University Basketball team because for the first time in three years, the DLSU Men’s Basketball team comes in short in securing a spot in the UAAP Final Four. What’s even more heartbreaking is that the Women’s Basketball division also lost their chance in getting on the playoff bus after losing against UST on the same day.
We know that the hearts of students, athletes, and fans everywhere may be breaking but here are three reasons to remind us that this is not the end for the De La Salle Green Archers.
1. There are no regrets as the Captain bids a gracious farewell.
There is no doubt that Kib Montalba played his last game with everything he could, and thanks to this parting message from the Cap, who played his fifth and final year for the Green and White team, we have nothing but high hopes and respect for him and the rest of the team.
Spoken like a true Green Archer captain! Kudos to you, Kib!
2. Win or lose, the unfading support for the DLSU Basketball team (and other athletic teams for that matter) continues.
Did you know that despite losing to FEU in their do-or-die game, DLSU was in Twitter’s top trends (keywords include Green Archers, La Salle, and DLSU)? We’ve collected some of the best tweets that will surely lift your spirits up!
Plus we got to see former Green Archer Jeron Teng and Ben Mbala show their unwavering school spirit for La Salle. #Animo!
Did you know that Ben had to "get an Angkas" just to get to the game? He also visited the boys during half-time for a pep talk!
Not to mention, the support Kib is getting from rumored girlfriend and UAAP Season 79 Finals MVP Desiree Chen is so adorbs!
#KibRee!!! We ship it!
3. The season is not over for De La Salle University!
Sure, basketball season for the men’s and women’s division may be over, but don’t forget that DLSU still holds the championship in the Women’s Volleyball division! Go Lady Spikers!
That’s right! Come Volleyball Season, it’s the DLSU Lady Spiker’s time to shine!
So yes, it was a tough loss for La Salle but seeing as their heart is in the right place when it comes to sportsmanship, we' can't wait to see future holds for them in Season 82. Animo La Salle!
Who will forget this little tribute from the DLSU Pep Squad last Saturday at the #UAAPCDC2018?
The stage is set for the Season 81 playoffs as the Far Eastern University Tamaraws advances to take the last spot in the Final Four and will be up against a twice-to-beat Ateneo de Manila University Eagles on Sunday, November 25. The University of the Philippines Maroons will go head-to-head with the Adamson Falcons who also have a twice-to-beat advantage.
Who’s excited to watch the games this weekend? We know we are!
