In Focus: How 'Riverdale' Star Lili Reinhart Inspires Us To Be Our Unfiltered Selves

Anyone who watches one of Netflix's most popular series Riverdale certainly knows the girl who's currently changing the world with her words as Betty Cooper and as herself IRL! From her dynamic role up to her relatable tweets, actress Lili Reinhart is breaking the internet with everything that she does, inspiring every girl to be just as natural as her.

One of the things that made her so admirable is how she has no shame in sharing every struggle she's experiencing in life. Whether it's about her weight or acne, she's not afraid to get real in the public eye. And through this, she's convincing us to be our most natural, unfiltered selves. Here, we list down the times this lovable 22-year-old femme encouraged us to love ourselves more each day through thick or thin.

1. Whenever she advocates body positivity...

Lili has always been open about her struggles with body image that she shared her thoughts about it during interviews and on social media often. But her latest speech in Glamour's 2018 Women of the Year Summit last November 11 might be the most powerful quotes we heard from her yet. The Riverdale actress talked about self-love, social media, and mental health. What struck us is when she shared that she's been dealing with the comments from people who says she doesn't have the right to discuss body struggles because she's thin. But her point is that she didn't think anything was wrong with her body until she started being surrounded by people who praise celebrities for having a smaller waist. She explains, "We aren’t born with these insecurities. We are told to be insecure about certain things. We are conditioned to feel ashamed or embarrassed about certain parts of ourselves."

She then wrapped her speech up by telling us girls to rally with and for each other, saying. "Let's celebrate each other, and ourselves, as we are, as we will be, and as we were meant to be."

2. When she called out a magazine for editing her body...

Since Lili's rose to fame, she graced covers of numerous magazines. But even before she reached the popularity she has now, she had always been honest about her dislike towards the industry every time they "photoshop" women's bodies. That's why when a local magazine edited her and Riverdale co-star Camila Mendes' photos to make them look thinner, we're not surprised that she called them out. She took to Instagram to set the record straight during International Women's Day that irresponsible editing heightens insecurities among women of all ages and sizes.

She posted the original images beside the screenshots of images that were printed on the magazine. The images were the same except for one thing: they have much smaller and unrealistic waists. She wrote with such inspiring conviction, "We are powerful, beautiful and strong… we aren’t going to hide behind photoshop to conform to beauty standards." Say it louder for the people in the back!

3. When she opened up about her anxiety...

One of the things that Lili helped us with is dealing with anxiety. Through admitting her struggles and sharing how she manages them, she has opened a door of braveness with her fans. When she was just starting, she spent five months in her bedroom just feeling anxious about booking work and waiting for her next auditon, claiming that it was the most miserable time of her life.

With the help of therapy, she built herself back up again and auditioned for the role of Riverdale's Betty Cooper which completely changed her life. Gaining a platform to speak up, Lili campaigned for mental health awarenes. She explained, "If you have a broken bone, you go to the doctor. If you have depression, people just say, ‘Everyone’s depressed, right?’ A lot of people don’t do anything about it, and that to me is sad. I know sometimes it’s hard to reach out and I want to just say that it’s so normal.”

4. When she shared to us her journey to confidence and self-love...

According to Lili, finding her confidence in a world where she's being judged by every move that she makes isn't easy. She feels like being in the spotlight forces you to see your insecurities mirrored back at you by people who point your flaws out. She taught us that it's not about beng perfect, but rather being confident in our own skin. It doesn't happen overnight, though; it's actually an everyday process.

Her confidence and self-love are still perhaps in the works. But what's important is that she doesn't suffer in silence. She's continuously trying to make herself feel better, and she's doing a good job at it.  She shared with Variety, "It’s different for every person. So my advice would be to not feel so pressured to figure myself out so quickly because, well, I’m still figuring it out."

At the end of the day, these celebrities are struggling like we are. That's why it's nice to have someone like Lili who can hold our hands through every insecurity and panic attack that we are battling. The more we see the real her, the more we fall in love with her. More power to you, Lili! You are such an angel!
