Girls who swoon over rising star Donny Pangilinan label him as "boyfriend material," and it's not hard to see why. With his dreamy looks, model-worthy physique, and all-around heartthrob quality, no one can pass unaffected by his easy-going charm.
When you meet him in the flesh, you'll instantly notice how Donny carries himself well—from his clean, streetwear-inspired style to his unfazed, rightfully confident aura. In action, he's a breeze to shoot with, knowing exactly how to give a penetrating gaze towards the camera or crack a smile that would instantly nail the shot down.
Beneath the surface, Donny is just as impressive. The way he converses and punctuates his sentences with a believable certainty gets him ahead of most stars his age. Perhaps he has sharpened this knack through hosting for MYX as a regular VJ. Or, maybe it just runs in the blood—his parents are showbiz personalities and his younger sister Hannah is one of today's most-followed vloggers.
These days, we're seeing Donny further explore his on-cam skills. After starring in the film Walwal earlier this year, now the 20-year-old budding actor is part of the lead cast of noontime series Playhouse. Being in a massively successful tandem with his co-star Kisses Delavin, Donny is currently peaking as one of today's biggest young stars.
In Playhouse, Donny takes on the role of Zeke, a character that fits him like a glove—the university jock with that "too charming for his own good" swag. "I get to relate to him kasi nag ta-track and field siya and ‘yun talaga yung sports ko," he tells. What gets the fans though, of course, is the romantic aspect of the show. Zeke tries to win the favors of Shiela, played by Kisses, by befriending her, an effort that is met by the latter's aversive attitude which brings that effectively kilig factor as Zeke packs on the charm and Shiela gradually breaks her walls down.
As his first serye, Donny admits feeling nervous at the beginning. But as soon as he got immersed in the cast and the whole working environment, he felt the pressure being lifted saying, "I really feel that everyone there is just making sure that we’re putting the best we can."
Donny feels the thrill of this fresh endeavor. When asked what he enjoys more between acting and hosting, he reveals, "I think my favorite right now is acting kasi it’s new to me, and it’s something that I've been working on since I was in high school pero ngayon ko lang talaga na pursue."
The path looks promising for Donny as he begins to find his footing. Sooner than later, he'll be stacking one extraordinary achievement after another. So how does he see himself in the near future? "Just growing, working with different people, improving my craft, and giving the fans back every support that they give," he finishes. At the rate that he's is going, there's no doubt he'll fulfill all that and more.
Playhouse currently airs on ABS-CBN at 11:15am.
