That's why instead of focusing on that, we rather do you a favor and present to you our favorite Korean dramas that would surely give you the fright you want with their supernatural and dark theme, perfect for the month of October as they include every Halloween-appropriate plots like vampires, ghosts, murderers, and grim reapers!
1. Black (2017)
The story of Black is about a possessed grim reaper named Black who's tasked to track down his wanted partner but instead discovers numerous cold case murders from 20 years ago. With the help of a girl who can see deadly spirits named Ha-ram, they broke the sacred rule of the afterlife by saving the people who are supposed to die. Throughout their self-given mission, they fall in love with each other which leads them to more complications. This drama would make you feel thrilled and scared with the amount of problems and deadly spirits the duo's going to face!
2. Master's Sun (2013)
A cold and selfish CEO named Joo Joong-won who runs the conglomerate of a major department store and hotel Kingdom meets the obscure woman Gong-shil who can see ghosts. The horror rom-com drama builds as Gong-shil discovers that the scary ghost that's surrounding her only leaves whenever she touches Joong-won. As expected, she took advantage of this and forced him to allow her to stay by his side. He agrees and they made a deal. In return she has to help him recover a fortune that was taken from him when he was almost kidnapped. Filled with spooky ghosts and cute banters, this drama is something you should definitely watch!
3. Let's Fight Ghost (2016)
As a 23-year-old 2nd year Economics student, it's no surprise that Park Bong-pal chose to be an exorcist just like his step-father since he can also see ghosts. Just because he can, it doesn't mean he want to, so he works hard to have enough money to remove this ability. He, then, meets the bubbly yet savage high school student Kim Hyun-ji who is a wandering ghost trying to find how she died. She believes that he can help her discover the reason for her death, so they work together to look for the answer while fighting the bad spirits that made them a target. Don't be fooled by the comedy and light-hearted scenes this drama have because you'll be surprised by the amount of scary ghosts they're going to escape in every episode!
4. The Village: Achiara’s Secret (2015)
Achiara is known for being a peaceful village with citizens at ease as they believe they're safe. But on Han So-yoon's first day in town, as she searches for the sender of the strange letter she received after her grandmother's death, she discovers a dead body. As the investigations continue, policeman Park Woo-jae helps her unfold village secrets one by one that were hidden to keep the town's bloodless image. It's a mystery and thriller drama that would make you want more with its never-ending twists!
5. Save Me (2017)
Adapted from the popular webcomic Out of the World by Jo Geum-san, Save Me is a psychological thriller drama about a girl who is surrounded by suspicious people which she later finds are members of a pseudo-religious cult. After this, she quietly screamed "Save me!" and hoped someone would come to rescue her. Surprisingly, it was heard by her old friend Han Sang-hwan. He and his friends teamed up to help her escape, and through this they experienced the most horrifying and tension-filled moments. People who have already watched this drama can attest that this would truly give you a scare as it's dark, disturbing, and creepy!
6. White Christmas (2011)
The title of this drama might be misleading as one might think it's for the Christmas season. But this drama is actually about a group of seven high school students and their teacher who were left spending winter break at the private and elite Soo-sin High School located deep in the mountains of Gangwon. While staying here, they received a cryptic letter which they first thought was a harmless prank. They then realized that during this time of holidays where everyone else is busy celebrating, the letters they each received were a sign that there is a murderer within them. This starts chaos as the group fights for their lives for eight days. Who would survive?
7. Goblin (2016-17)
Halloween is not only about scares and dark-themed scenarios; it's also about the supernatural and fantasy that surrounds us. That's why Goblin deserves to be on our list as it is a fantasy romance drama about a goblin and protector of souls Kim Shin who seeks to end his awful immortal life by finding a human bride. While searching, he then finds his life intertwined with the grim reaper Wang Yeo who can't seem to remember his past and is in charge of taking deceased souls. Meanwhile, Ji Eun Tak is an optimistic high school student who's the only one who can summon the goblin. If you haven't watched it yet, now's the perfect time to let this drama tug at your heartstrings!
If you're not the partying type, you might be better of chilling with a good set of dramas this season. And even if you're not a fan of the scary stuff, we still recommend you to watch these Korean series for the sake of the Halloween spirit!
