Hot Stuff: The ‘Riverdale’ Squad: Where Are They Now?

Hot Stuff: The ‘Riverdale’ Squad: Where Are They Now?

Exciting day for Riverdale fans as the third season of the fan favorite teen drama premieres today, October 11, only on Netflix. But before we dive back into the deliciously dark world of Riverdale, let’s check in with the barkada with this character refresher. After all, season 2 was quite an eventful chapter in these characters’ lives!

Archie Andrews (KJ Apa)

Season 2 ended with Archie being escorted out of the school gym by Sheriff Minetta (Henderson Wade), allegedly for the murder of a man named Cassidy, the Townie who terrorized his squad during their stay at the Lodge’s Lake House earlier in the season. And right before Archie could give his inauguration speech as newly elected student body president, he was arrested for the assumption that he was the one who killed Cassidy even though we all know that it was Hiram's associate Andre!

Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes)

After an entire season of plotting with her parents and her boyfriend Archie, Veronica ended the show’s sophomore year with a bang, making probably the boldest decision of her young life by cutting her financial ties with her father, Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos). Yup, no more trust fund, credit cards, and allowance! In exchange for her freedom from his illegal businesses and the right to own Pop’s Chock'lit Shoppe which the newly minted business owner plans to turn into a speakeasy.

Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart)

Traumatized by the Black Hood throughout the season especially by the fact that one of the Black Hoods was her father, Betty ended season two on a much-deserved happy note: cozy with her beloved Jughead that has now become the new Serpent King who asked her to be his Serpent Queen.

Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse)

The fan favorite was beaten within an inch of his death which sent social media fans into grief, fear, and anger. But lucky for us (and the show’s creators really), Jughead survived the incident with the Ghoulies and was even crowned Serpent King for his sacrifice! Not counting Jughead’s presence in Archie’s walk of shame finale-ending scene, Jughead ended season 2 with one of the happier scenes of the season: snuggling with his girlfriend and, hopefully, Serpent Queen Betty. #BUGHEADFOREVER

Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)

The good vibes just kept coming in the final moments of season 2! Cheryl, after having spent the first few episodes being inhumanely tortured which she definitely didn't deserve, she teamed up with Jughead and Toni in the last few episodes to get the Serpents back on track. Her reward for her selfless deed? A red-hot Serpent jacket only Cheryl will be able to rock, plus more time with Toni. Yup, Cheryl is the newest member of the Serpents!

Kevin Keller (Casey Cott)

From the first season, the sexual tension and chemistry between Kevin and Moose (Cody Kearsley) have been quite apparent. Could they finally be an official couple in season 3? Well, we totally hope so! In one of the final moments of the season 2, Kevin was comforting a grieving Moose (who had lost his girlfriend Midge in the most intense episode) with a hug when Moose suddenly leaned in for a kiss!

Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan)

When Toni was first introduced on Riverdale, she was quickly reduced by passionate fans as the woman who would ruin #Bughead. Thankfully, her character development turned out to be much more interesting than simply being the third party in a love triangle. How much more interesting? She helped keep the Serpents alive for starters! Toni also saved Cheryl from torture by getting her out of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, a truly backwards place that does gay conversion therapy. To top it all off, Toni ended the season as one half of the series’ third power couple: #Choni.

Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray)

After a brief foray into high school politics, Josie withdrew from the presidential race together with her running mate Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton) to focus on the thing she loves best which is her music.

We can expect in Season 3, the start of junior year, to see the characters prioritizing their future than before. But with Hiram now in control of the Southside, Archie on trial for murder, and complicated romantic relationships forming, we can also expect a gripping start to the new season! Are you excited for another wild ride with the Riverdale gang?
